The Elise S replaces the Elise SC with a new 1.8l super charged engine capable of delivering 220 PS and a power delivery which results in even more torque. With the new engine and improved throttle response, the Elise S gives an even more exhilarating and lively drive experience. The more efficient engine results in lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than the outgoing Elise SC.

Brilliant, lets add more confusion to the naming lineup. FFS
Still, will be interested to see what engine will be used(although i'll be keeping my S thanks).

Consistent with the current Evora and potentially Exige, but confusing against the old stuff.

I always thought naming the 134bhp Toyota engined car the S was an odd move as with the K-series cars the 111S was the higher spec model, as was the Exige S.

Yes. Don't know which for sure yet, but if I was a betting man I'd go for the 2ZR-FAE with a Roots type supercharger added.

Ah yes, seems like a good bet, the engine that should have gone into the base Elise (in N/A form) instead of the 1.6 IMO

Guess the 1.6 was chosen to meet emissions targets? Quite enjoyed it when I test drove one a few months back, you can feel how they've compromised the car at times, but when you're pushing on I found it more enjoyable as a road car than the 111R - could feel like you were working the engine without constantly worrying about losing your license and having to wring out every last rev to keep it on the boil.

Perhaps, but i remember at the time they launched it, looking at toyta's revamped 4 range and spotting this 1.8 in there and thinking why the hell did they not use the 1.8 version, near enough the same CO2/MPG around only 5% worse than the 1.6, for a useful 10% + more power/toque than the old 1.8

It would have given the base car a much needed performance boost, instead of the 1.6 thats marginally less powerful than the old toyota 1.8, in base car thats got no faster over the 15 odd years, if anything slower, than the original 1.8

Compare that to the current boxter, that is now in 2.9 litre form and almost as fast as the very first of the original hotter models, i like the looks of the new 1.6, but it's performance is barely 2 litre Mx5 levels these days, compared to the old 1.8 K series which was from lower speeds acceleratively speaking mixing it with some much more impressive machinery

Guess they really wanted to get it down in to Band F and be able to claim the lowest emission sports car?

I would suspect cost would account for this more than anything else.
