mmmm...probably...but it would cost a fortune to do..and why? winding them up and down by hand is quicker !..you have to reach across to do the passenger side even on the new cars - theres no dual button...cant see the benefit myself

electric windows would be nice, but I suppose leaning over to do the passenger one would be a pain, unless I wired up a new switch somewhere.

I wanted central locking, as I can't find out how to lock my doors from the inside , and I'm fed up of locking the car up and having to manually check the passenger door is locked too.

hmm, If I can't get the modules into my car, I am going to sell it and get a new 111R.

the easiest thing to do with the doors is not to unlock them ever ! - to get in just turn the key, unlock the door and open it then turn the key back - that way the doors are always locked from the outside...thats what I do anyway - saves remembering to having to lock them

I will try that myself - It was a bit worrying after seeing all that car jacking stuff on TV.

thanks

If you're a bit handy with the spanners then Maplin do a central locking kit:

www.maplin.co.uk/products/module.asp?CartID=040616151224518&moduleno=12303

Don't know if it'll work on an Elise but worked great on my mates Polo

I had a day with my delaers '2004' Elise 111S some months ago, whilst my 2002 model was being serviced. I must say I thought the electric windows and central locking were a total waste of time.

I mean, it's a small 2 door car. I couldn't help wondering what Lotus were trying to achieve. I thought the switchgear for the windows was cheap, and on the car I saw, somewhat ill-fitted. As said, there was no swith for the passenger on the drivers side. The system was not linked in any way to the alarm system, as in more modern cars, allowing full closure etc... And ultimately, what looks better in the cabin, a pair of smart alloy winders, or those cheapo plastic buttons?

As for the central locking, I simply failed to see the point. There is still no internal release for the boot. There are only 2 doors. How long before the first customers start posting about problems with the system. Won't lock/unlock, interferes with the alarm etc...

Frankly, I thought they looked and felt like the afterthoughts they so obviously are. If you are looking for electic windows, central locking and the like, maybe the Elise is not the car you are looking for.

I agree. Though I'm pretty sure that the leccy windows and central locking were probably introduced for cars in the american market.

I'm not sure it's worth the effort.
Having fitted e/w & c/l on a golf gti using kits they did the job but weren't as good as the factory fits.
The central locking on the elise is done off the alarm fob.
And yes i have got e/w & c/l on my lizzy and i think it's an amazing car.you purists can't have it all

That's a bloody good idea, Bogie!

Someone tried to car-jack my g/f's car last week (on a slip road on Leeds ring road - not even in the Bad Lands). I'm a lot bigger and uglier than her, but even so, I was beginning to worry about being strapped in to a car with no roof at kneecap level. I'll no longer have to find a discreet yet accessible place to stash the sawn-off in an Elise, any more.

Central locking can be fitted easly, Go to maplin and buy a Spal two door locking kit which will cost no more than 20 pounds.Lotus have allready left the connections for the door lock but you will need to do the wiring up though. As for locking and unlocking youre car from the inside just wire a switch in to the locking relays ( which you will need to wire in ) As for electric windows you will have to wait as Lotus have an agreement with electriclife not to supply out side of the lotus network, but this could change soon. I am currently sorting out my own car with the above but havent sorted out prices yet. ( I am a trained auto electrician whom works for Tracker UK)

You have far too much money then!! Bogie's method is the one I use or I leave it in the garage with the roof off and just reach over the door to open it.

Not interested in electric windows personally, but I have used the Maplin kit on my S2. If done right it makes use of the deadlocking feature of the lock i.e. the doors can't be opened using the interior handle. Obviously shouldn't be used when driving nomally. (Driving normally, what am I talking about?)

Maplin also sell a module to make use of the alarm output to operate the actuators.

The four door kit from Maplin (enough for your hairdressers car too) has been selling for £15 recently. The alarm module another £10.

It adds to the everyday usability of the car for me.

As for the extra weight, it's nothing that couldn't be sorted out by 3/4 hour on the Atkins Diet.
