I have been in the same situation as you.

I am 26 and I have had insurance for an Elise and also for a 340R, for about 800-900 per year.

BUT

as soon as I modify the car the insurance shoots up 200-500 right away.

It seems that the companies that are good for younger drivers are not good for mods and vice-versa!

Here's a few to try....
Autotorque
Adrian Flux
Bell Direct
Admiral
Esteem, Woking, Surrey

Then Tesco and Direct Line - but remember to factor in the cost of an approved tracker for these two.

Good Luck!

Footman james were double the price of others i tried

Adrian flux were by far the cheapest for me + they don't charge extra for having a sports exhaust

I got my best deal through, Elephant, no trackday cover but you can add the mods on the internet site and it re adjusts for you. I was an induction kit, and sports exhaust and it went up around £60 iirc.

PS Cuzza, I spotted your car at LM,(Just checked your profile pic) I was a blue S2 parked about 20ft away from yours on friday morning on verges of Indy/ Arnage Corners

Cheers

Are you sure you are telling the insurance companies that its a long life airfilter and a long life replacement exhaust which doesnt offer any performance advantage just they last a lot longer than standard items?!

Hi Dave,

I saw your car abit further down from mine - very nice. I had a bit of a look round it as I haven't really had a good look at an S2. I didn't know it was one of 'ours' or I'd have tried to track you down for a chat.

Hope you enjoyed the weekend.

Finally, a spotted - woohoo!!

Funny you should ask but......

I've had the car for two years, the first year was insured through Direct Line £860 full no claims, 3pts, 10k limited milage etc. No tracker required.

In the meantime I'd joined the Official Lotus Club and became aware of Esteem (10% discount for OLC members).

Last year I tried Esteem, and the quote was £560 same details etc. except 12K milage (Direct Line were now asking £960 )

Just had my renewal through from esteem (insured via OLC- official lotus club). I've just got another 3 pts and the quote is... £468.57!

Oh and the excesses have all reduced from £500 to £250 as well

So to make a short story long, I'm very happy with Esteem. Give them a call 01483 706000, the company is actually called AON Automotive Division.

Good Luck, I hope you're as pleased with the results as I am.

Go to www.lotuscars.co.uk and the form/details are on there for the official lotus club....I assume this is what people are refering to?

There's two:

OLC - Official Lotus Club run by Lotus, they get you a discount with Esteem

Club Lotus - Unofficial Lotus Club (the one I'm a member of) based in Norfolk with very good inks to the factory - have a special policy running with Footman James.

From what I've heard OLC isn't as active as Club Lotus but if you get insurance that cheap - who cares?

Indeed, the OLC website is pretty much useless! Used to be great when Lotus' Nick Adams was providing technical input.

It's £30 per annum and you do get a magazine, although IMO it does resemble more an extravagent marketing pamphlet than a true enthusiats read.

I'd try Esteem without OLC membership first, you never know whether these are real discounts or just a marketing ploy. If they cannot/ will not match the discounted premium, then join the club to get the insurance.

In terms of which club to join, as Cuzza said, Club Lotus is the way to go.
