someone pointed out to me that i had an oil leak, the oil had run to the back of the engine guard/cover and was visible.

I called lotus assistance after checking the oil level (very low!)

anyway the oil was leaking from the filter, i went and got 4 litres of oil and a filter and changed it over with the AA guy, he was really helpful and his opinion was that the filter had been over tightened!

If I had continued to drive the car I could have had real problems! the car was serviced 4 weeks ago at Lotus!

would you complain?

Damn right !

You may not get anything but theres no harm in complaining - remember that if all the oil had leaked out its new engine time...

thanks Steff,

hmmm I think they will possibly say that my warranty is now void as I have a non standard oil filter on the car(champion instead of Lotus)

But what else was I meant to do?

Yes, bring it to their attention, politely at first and ideally before naming the specific "Lotus" service outlet in question.

Lotus don't make oil filters; as long as the Champion one you've fitted is correct for the engine, and the new oil is the correct spec there should be no warranty issues. If they are not the right ones, then suggest to whoever did it the first time that they re-do it FOC at the earliest convenience.

p.s. don't forget it's down to you to check the oil level occasionally too.

Thanks Adrian,

the car had its PDI at Lotus 4 weeks ago as it was a lotus owned car!

I have as you said politely brought it to their attention and just waiting for a call back now

Just glad someone spotted it!

Regards
