I find its best to offer people on - if at all - only when there a corner nearby.

That way, assuming you make the corner first, you can't loose - doesn't matter who tries it.

Tell me you're having a laugh.........

In a traffic light drag race you'll lose to most TVRs (except slow old Chim 400s), most Porsches, and a load of other stuff - take Martins advice get to the corner first, then let the car do what it does best!!

LOL - a std Elise is about 18secs to a ton....most Volvos, 330s, Vectra V6 and other repmobiles will keep up with you....and from 80mph + they will leave you behind.

A std Elise is quick off the line up to 60mph...after that its about as quick as a 2.5-3L repmobile.

Stick to having fun on a tight n twisty B road !

Metro's, Fiests's (not XR2's or RS Turbo's), Volvo 340's, Lada's, busses, Sinclaire C5's mountain bikes (but not if being riden by dispatch couriers as they are mad) and people on those shop mobility buggies.

Stick to those and you should be safe

For traffic lights upto 40 or so, you really shouldn't have a problem with anything... Something 4wd might do better mind, but some you win some you lose.

If someone 'offers me up at the lights' I never race them...don't see the point as I value my licence and car too much. I'm just safe in the knowledge that whether they could beat me or not I'm most likely having more fun driving

The elise is quick off the mark, but as has been mentioned before any rep mobile will be able to keep up once you get to 60 or so.

I don't like to race, however if the road is a 30, 40 I do get tempted. That way you nip away from the lights from a standing start, (there isn't much that can keep up), and then hold at the appropriate speed limit.

That way you piss off the numpty in two ways, you're quicker off the mark and upon reaching the speed limit they can go blaring past for no good reason.

A calm demeaner and a smile accompany such occasions well IMO.

Regards, Neil

PS. Anyone who thinks that overtaking an elise in straight line, exceeding the speed limit proves anything should realise that it's the fact that they are a fool who doesn't understand/ appreciate cars.

Anyone who was at pistonfest saw what a proper dragster can do, but only in a straight line.

Always remember corners are king (without them we couldn't get anywhere)

about 10-12secs depending how hard you try, whether you want any clutch left, and how much rubber you leave on the road !

I don't race from lights either, but do pull away fairly quickly most of the time.

No point racing, it proves nothing as the idiot normally sails past you at 40mph over the limit about 6 seconds after you've stopped accelerating. They then go home and post on the internet how they 'nailed an Elise/whatever nicer car you were in'.

dont think I'm not watching

next weekend you can put your money where your mouth is. (thats odd, last night i told her to put her mouth where my money was)

I guess I could bring the Rover and have the battle of the head gaskets...

Took you four hours to find it though - you're slipping!

Assuming I can get the car on the strip as I'm not camping I'm still up for it... stay tuned drag-fans

If you're not going to the H&C tonight I'm off out for a few beers later as I've had the day from hell

tell me about it mate. I'll wager another bet that my days been worse, hence I havent seen your post until I got home tonight.

I am heading up the barn now mate. Looks like I will be heading up to the hen and chicken. More than welcome to jump in the car and come along for a few pints. Was seeing if someone could give me a lift as really need a beer myself tonight but no offers so looks like I am driving. Anyway, signing off now so give me a bell if you want to take me up on the offer.

Not too sure whats happening re the drag racing myself yet mate. Will fill you in on the details when I speak/see you next.

Agree with not racing most of the time, but was tempted by the odd TT that thinks he is quick..ha ha

First day I got the liz, a Citroen Zantia over took me on a blind bend, then parked up just near my mates house and was on his mobile shouting about how he had just "done" an Elise. That was the only bad thing I ever had happen in the liz. Tw@t.

Alas it was sold a few months ago, but I really really want it back... hence lingering on forums like this...

I rarely bother with Traffic Light Grand Prix anymore - I value the clutch too much and would prefer people to see me pull away in style than off the line in a cloud of rubber like some t.w.a.t in a chavv'd up hot hatch.

The Elise is all about the twisty bits. A good mate has a Z3M Coupe which would comfortably, and comprehensively eat my 'liz for breakfast in a straight line and crap it out the back like a walnut whip. On a good B road though he freely admits that the Lotus is the better drivers car.

I laugh at any t.w.a.t that wants to "do" me just because I'm in a Lotus. Pass on bye kno8heads, pass on bye!

I gotta say at my last track day outing, I was quicker than an Z3M Coupe and M3 SMG, and I have a standard S2. On the straights I did get hammered but since I was carrying more speed into the corners and able to put power on earlier, the power advanatge they had was almost neglible.
