I want to upgrade the crappy standard sound setup in my Elise and I need a little bit of bass (not too much, don't want to be breaking shop windows as I drive past but a little bit of a beat would be nice. I have no intention of sharing my choice of music with the restof the traffic!) Does anyone have any experience with fitting any type of subwoofers in their cars, or different mid range speaker with a better bass? What will fit in the car?
Thanks in advance
Richard.

Mine has one in but I've only just bought the car and haven't investigated the sound setup yet. It sounds well though )

Will have a look during the week and report back.

Sub is behind passenger seat.

for an S1 try www.elise-goes-hifi.com for a complete solution.

other cheaper option that a lot of people have done is to fit a small Pioneer bass tube on the rear shelf, then with a decent head unit you can send the bass to the sub and the rest to the existing speakers

Crikey, that's a serious installation! I was thinking more along the lines of a set of tweeters from Elise Parts, and one of those active subwoofers with built-in amplifier to go behind the luggage net (there's a write-up on www.lotusespritworld.co.uk for a clarion unit in Kato's Esprit) - looks like it might fit okay. I recently bought a new Sony head unit which should do the trick.

The only thing I've added is:

Was going to upgrade the speakers too but found that I didn't really need to. Much improved bass, not a Max Power type sound but just nice crisp sound that can now easily be heard with the roof down. Paid £250 for both the sub & the MP3 head unit. Well worth it IMO.
