empathy needed!
Discussion
Hi Guys,
Just returned from my local Tescos to find a parking ticket on the windscreen for parking across two spaces.
I want to write a good complaint and appeal letter to the ticket people explaining that, in my experience, if you park in a normal space next to the numpties who have no consideration for others, more often than not a nice chunk is taken out of my door. Also, with my 6'4" passenger the door has to be open fully for him to get out and in.
I was just protecting my brand new Liz. Is that wrong?
am I out of line?
What should I write back?

tell them in a polite manner that some dipstick had prior to you taken up 2 spaces - job finished.
Is the ticket from Tesco or a private contractor (or even your local council)?
If it's from Tesco - you should have no problem
Private contractor - you have to be lucky to win he battle
Local council - decent chance of the charges being removed.
Post a thread in speed, plod and the law section.

Have you ever had a chunk taken out of your door? GRP is pretty robust and as it's flexible takes knocks quite well even with a Lotus paint job on top. I find people are generally more careful when parking near my car rather than flinging doors open as they door with my daily driver.

No, taking reasonable steps is fine - being selfish isn't. If you didn't own a car and you were looking for a space in a busy acr park and someone had taken two spaces would you say 'It's an Elise - that's fine' or 'Arrogant tosser, what gives him the right to do that?' (not saying you're and arrogant tosser but you get the idea).

I'm sorry for being selfish - the car is new and I'm paranoid about it at the moment. I've laernt my lesson, please will you rescind (sp?) the ticket as my insurance is really expensive.
I take your point cuzza and you are right. When I see somebody take up two spaces in a full car park it's annoying. However, the car park was virtually empty and I parked well away from anybody. It also never, ever fills up(its in Amersham, ye yocal town) and yes, somebody made a lovely mark whilst opening their door, the last time I was there.
It all depends on the circumstances I guess and I cant be bothered to go into detail now but thanks for all the responses.

If it's a private company, how the hell is the fine enforcable? I wouldn't pay a parking fine for parking wrongly in a Tescos car park! No way!
Euro Car Parks are total Bastads ,i live in Malmo Sweden but am in Copenhagen most of the time , if i get a Council parking ticket on my Swedish reg car i can forget it , if i get a Euro Car Parks ticket they will hound you until its paid , adding to the fine if its not paid on time
Youre right it is the principal, but the fine is £50! IN A FREE CAR PARK!!
I went back to check the signs out and they say that you must be parked within the bays. I was... just two of them - but they didnt say that!
I dont mean to be be pedantic, but to be issued a ticket ina quiet Tesco car park in numptyville is taking the pith. I'm going to write to the manager of the Tesco's and see what happens.
But Im sure you can empathise boys that getting in and out of a liz when you are 6'4" without the door fully open is difficult.

I'll let you have that one - I'm 6'4", too and I cannot avoid banging the door if there's not enough room. That's the reason I demolished half the garage and made it wider...
