#I feel good. da na na na na na. I knew that i would now. da na na na na na# (repeat until fade)
Anyway. I am having a bout of upgrade-itis. The victim? Brakes!
My discs need to be changed shortly and so i have been looking around. Here are my options (and questions)
1) Get straight replacements (x-drilled) from Lotus.
-seems like a good option. Fancy something different though
2) EBC turbo groove discs
-seem like a good set of discs. However, in the quest to have immense stopping power, i'm drawn to....
3) Eliseparts own design alumininininum discs
-ooooh baby! seem like a good set which (upon reading old posts) work VERY well with pagids. The only thing is, i've "heard" that they are liable to cracking sooner than other x-drilled discs.
Which would you go for and why? How much of a benefit (in monetary terms) is retaining the aliminininum bells of the elisepart's discs compared to just keep getting standard discs?
In relation to pads, i have read that it IS possible to bed the discs in using existing pads, however some of you wouldn't (and it shouldnt be done if the pads are uneven). That's fair enough. I think i'd err on the side of caution and go for a set of pagids (4-2s) at the same time.
opinions, thoughts, ideas and anything else (keep it clean
) would be most welcome.
this is going to get expensive
Right. Im off to find another way to skin a cat

drag the EBC's are great breaks. they arent drilled and groved but dimpled instead. this is because when they first made the turbo groove disk they found like many others cracks, leading from the holes (their weak point). so they fixed this. these disks are ment to work their best with green stuff pads, means less break fade coz they work better at higher temperatures. they also make red pads and i think blue. all with different characteristics. the other disks u mentioned i dont know much about. look into Tarox or Red.dot both are good makers. or look at a big disk conversion. Only the best will doodle doooooooooo for el beast!
Id stick to tried and tested setups
go with Elise parts ally belled jobbies (will save you dosh long term) or EBC
Go with Pagid RS42s for mixed use - RS14s are a bit OTT for road use
No need for big brake kits on the Elise - it will ruin your brake feel and you will end up with an on/off switch - I test drove an Elise with 6 pots and they were just too viscious. If you can lock up the wheels with the brakes you have its the tyres that are the limiting factor, not the brakes...if you were running slicks and racing then yes , you may require upgraded calipers etc

I think Elise parts actually use EBC sourced rotors anyway - its just they fit them to removable bells - that way in the future you just have to buy the rotors. I did some maths though and I think you would need to go through about 2 full sets of disks in order to start saving money over just buying the complete disks
