Just bought an S2 Racetech on a 51 plate with 5K miles. It is absolutely imaculate except there seems to be a problem. It looks like there is a small amount of oil coming out of the hole below the flywheel housing. So I think it is the crankshaft oil seal. Over time this sprays up onto the CV joint which looks like brand new as it is coated with a small film of oil. The other CV is a bit rusty, which makes me believe this has been happening for a very long time. The car has just been serviced and the oil is on the max mark. The clutch is not slipping. My question is - Has anyone else had any experience of an oil leak similar to this and is it anything to worry about ? I've read a few articles on fires in elises but every time I use the car I always wipe any oil off the under tray. There is not much oil and I don't think it's that bad, am I right ? Any comments appreciated.

you can't say it's the CSOS unless you take off the cam covers and have a look.
The risk is that the oil may be getting onto the cambelt which is a potential problem.
The top end is much more likely to leak - the camshaft oil seals behind the cam wheels, or a leak from the camshaft cover, dripping down into the cambelt cover. I suggest you have a good look for the leak and check the belt. rarely the HG can leak oil out - but it's very rare.
cheers
