I went to pay for my 111r yesterday (I collect it Wednesday ), and was asking the dealer about running in and also what the car prefers to drink.

He wasn't able to give me a definite answer, but said that Rover-powered cars run better on Optimax/Super Unleaded.

Does anyone know if the choice of fuel makes any difference to power or how a Toyota-powered Elise runs?

Thanks in advance

K series cars dont have a knock sensor - the ECU/Engine cant tell what fuel youve put in...generally no benefit to running 98RON

Dunno about the Toyota - I think it may have done when it was in the Celica...not sure with the Lotus ECU - tried looking in the owners manual?...whats it say in there?

Hi guys I'm new to the site today and just wondered what you think of your 111R, I've got one on order and should be picking it up within the next two week's, I'm currently driving a Audi TT 180 I haven't been overly impressed with this ?

Hi boggy . Welcome to PH!

To sum it up in five words: you will not be disappointed. I was pleasantly surprised with the fit, finish and build quality of the car, and the dealer is eager to sort the minor niggles I have encountered. To give you an idea, all I have is a piece of interior trim needing a bit more glue, a rattle/vibration coming from the nose (which sounds like something just needs tightening up), and a scratch/moulding marks on the Stack instrument pod, which will be swapped out for a new unit. They are sorting these out at the 1000mile service. You can also be reassured by the warranty, which was recently extended to 2 years unlimited mileage.

The driving experience is second to none. The feedback through the wheel is superlative, and the ride firm but compliant. The engine feels eager, but I'm still running in so I have to keep a reign on the power, which is not easy!

In terms of practicality, you will notice a couple of things. Whilst you may be able to get in and out easily, others unused to the car may not. The boot is small but adequate - I use a largish bag as a briefcase, and it fits just fine. The only thing I currently find a bit tricky is reversing, but that's just because I'm not used to the car yet. I find the lack of rear 3/4 visibility a bit awkward for reversing into my drive, whereas with my MGB, I could look through the quarterlights in the hood to line up my approach.

I would say that you will be delighted with your 111r, and IMHO it will be a 100% improvement over your TT .

Enjoy your new car - and don't forget to post pics when you get hold of it! What spec & colour did you go for?

Just to go back on-topic, Thanks for the info, Mark. I've just filled up with regular, having gotten 300 miles out of the first tank until the fuel warning light came on. I think I'll stick to regular until she's run in, then I'll wean her onto Optimax .

Hi [K]arl,

I've ordered a ardent red model via the internet, I got a full uk spec Car with about 6% Discount off the uk list price, I visited my local Lotus dealer and was just about to sign on the line when my girlfriend mentioned the dealer that she'd seen on the net, I got the touring pack with the full black leather but I wasn't sure about air conditioning ? Norman of Ntc Car's kept telling me to have it installed but it kept pushing the price up. I've lost a fair bit on the Audi as you can Imagine so I can't really justify it when it's already convertible, it will be my second Lotus as I used to own a Elise which was an ex factory test car, I regret selling that so hopefully I'll just keep this one and start a collection.

Well if the other half let's me ?

Excellent choice, boggy! If you look at my other thread, titled "It's arrived!", you will see my car is also Ardent Red with touring pack. I went for the hardtop and sports exhaust on top, but similarly decided against aircon. I figured that the added weight and power loss were too great a tradeoff.

Enjoy your car!

3 Ardent Red Elises together would make a good photoshoot.

Spoke to the dealer yesterday and it turn's out it's coming to him at the end of this week so hopefully get the car on the 21st

Congrats to everyone in the thread getting Ardent Red 111r's. You will note that we are all inexplicably attractive, of impeccable taste, and so bright that night falls a full hour later where we live

Seriously, I think Ardent Red is far and away the best colour. A photoshoot of three matching cars or including one of those chicken-wired things would be neat. Where are you all based? An action shot somewhere like Anglesey would work well.

Boggy - what were you so disatisfied with on your Audi? My father's new A4 FSI-SE arrives on Friday - I know it's a different model, but what did you have problems with? Was it something specific to the TT?

Hi Guy's

The list is long and un-eventful I'm afraid, I was looking to replace my Bmw 328i Coupe at the time and I really wanted to buy another Lotus, I.e. the 111s, however my Dad and Girlfriend talked me out of this because of Impractical reasons, we picked the Audi up from Tonbridge and for the first two week's were deeply in love, this began to fade fast we've had nothing but grief from other road user's and it doesn't do anything that well. It's doesn't seem to grip the road when pushed, I've been very surprised on how easy normal car's can keep up with you through the lanes this simply didn't happen in my old Elise or with some of my Bmw's ? I think I was just spoiled with the Lotus and the negative attention from other car user's has sealed the case, I've had a few niggles to with the Boot not closing banging from underneath and also the overrule finish wasn't that great, I wouldn't buy another Audi TT but I do like the brand, maybe a A2 as a run-around for the Wife ?

I'm going to stick with Lotus and try and start a Collection Ho Ho !
