I've got a Bell and Colville Super 160

its quite a quick little car - I was suprised to find out the ignition map had not been modded from the standard map.

A friend of mine is a superchips dealer - he has explained that there is a "Race Icon" ignition unit that will allow the ignition to be re-mapped. It can even be adjusted to suit the car.

i'm tempted to give it a go and release a bit more horsepower - thay quote 12 hp on a std engine, i would expect more from my already tuned engine ?

Has anyone had it done ?

A good idea if it runs

Its been proven not to do anything on an Elise ...either spend the money on a fully programmable ECU like an Emerald or dont bother at all.

Get a dyno run on your car now (costs about £30) ...then have it chipped if youre friend will give you a money back guarantee...then get it back on the rollers at the same place...Id put money on you NOT getting anywhere near 12bhp.

Lots of people have tried them, and some even found they lost power with it.

They work well on turbo cars - just by cranking up the boost....not so well on the K series

try asking on the tech BBS at www.seloc.org - a few guys there have experience of them in the past

Super chops are not very good, they make a new chip for an engine, then assume that every engine is the same and this is not the case, if you have a different exhaust or any other mods it will vary, and of course two identical engines will not n=always produce the same power.

Better to go for a repogrammable chip, Emerald or Unichip, they will actually tune the ECU with your car on a rolling road and map the fueling properly.

The chip in question is remappable

it comes with a plug in controller that lets you adjust the ignition map to suit

yeah - its just the ignition map - you need to be able to map the fuelling as well...not just retard/advance the ignition.

How much are they fitted? £400ish? - you can get a Unichip for that (fully programmable piggy back ECU) or an Emerald for about £550 (fully programmable replacement ECU)

I have an Emerald, can program it with my laptop - its the danglies ...once youve got one, no matter what tuning you do in the future you just remap the Emerald - it will run most 4cyl engines too e.g. Audi conversion etc...with the Superchip youd have to throw it away

seriously - go and ask around ...or do a search on Google...theres on Elise owners site with dyno runs before and after - no difference whatsover..complete waste of money

agreed. Superchips Emerald

For 550 you can re-program the thing a zillion times as you change your setup (as you inevitably do on elises)

Go with something proven on this one.
