Hi,

Ive got a Cobra 7696 but my new insurance co. does not acknowledge its a CAT1 system, even though Ive never had problems before. To save the hassle of switching insurance again (and explaining why) Id like to contact Cobra manufacturers and get them to confirm (or not) the category status of my alarm.
BUT I cant find any web page to help me find an addres / email etc for Cobra makers. Can anyone help me please ?

Cobra are an italian company : www.cobra.it
You should be able to contact them through their website.

I contacted them last year to see about replacement fobs. They got back to me very quickly & gave me the details of the UK distibutor, but then the UK People never bothered to respond! Fobs now OK thanks to thin strip of duct tape!

splinter... I asked a similar question a while back.

Hope that link answers it. Sounds like your insurance company is being a numpty!

yeah but they are also being stubborn, and if I dump them then its like Ive been refused insurancve and hat will be a nightmare. as an alternative can anyone give me a line to where I can check Thatcham listings. Or how to ask Thatcham for the category of my system ?

much appreciated guys.
Oh plus 2 of the big insurers wouldnt touch me because a tracker is now mandatory on "hot" cars like this !!

Maybe try Thatcham's Vehicle Security National Helpline on 0870 550 2006.

Listed at the bottom of this page:
www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/security/approved_products.html#CAT1

Let us know how it goes.

Surely that's complete cobblers... they're not refusing you insurance which is a whole different ballgame. Has anyone else given you a comparable or better quote? If so will they accept the Cobra as a Cat1? If the answer's yes maybe you can use that as a carrot for the current numpties to sit up and listen... if not I'd tell 'em to shove it and take my business elsewhere.

Best of luck mate.

Doesn't appear to be Thatcham accredited:
www.thatcham.org/resources/pdfs/compliance.pdf
page 16.. your model does not appear.

ok - thats weird cos the handbook clearly states its a CAT1 unless I fiddle with it and then the rating become sinvalid etc etc. I have a fitting certificate saying its CAT and last year DirectLine were happy to accpet it ?

Imalso now worried that either its been dropped from standards (can that happen) or some where somebody started a con and its been perptuated till yours truely picks it up !
