Hello I currently do Hill Climbs in a TVR Griffith, and can’t catch a supercharged Exige in my class or even get near to the Elise times, so I am considering changing to a Lotus for next year. The question is what cars should I be looking at and what Mods do they need to be competitive. If I look for a factory 190 sport, is that the full package or is there still work to do, also how does the Exige / Elise choice pan out. If anybody can give me a quick idiot’s guide it would be appreciated.

I went to Goodwood earlier in the year and there was a guy there with a 225bhp Orange Exige - not the same one is it? I don't think he had a supercharger though (or if he did, he didn't tell me).

He told me if someone ran a 340R they'd beat him hands down but they're a pig to work on if required so he's in an Exige still.

Depends on ther regs as ever but...

An Exige is basically a Sport 190 with a different body. Both have advantages - the Exige has more downforce but the Elise is lighter with less drag. Both will need mods to go racing as the standard suspension isn't up to much. I wouldn't recomend a turbo charged K engine for reliability but would highly recomend a Honda if you want more power.

Thanks for your replies :-
No the supercharged one in question is a silver car and is, I believe, fitted with a Sprintex unit. I am told that the Elise is quicker up to about 80 Mph because it is lighter, beyond that the Exige has aerodynamic advantages. Then it gets a bit confusing because I thought the standard Exige was 177 Bhp., not 190 and some 190s seem to be advertised as 210bhp. I guess that Nitrons would be the first mod then. I would be in ModProd so no big problems there.

Elise has less drag so would be quicker at higher speeds than the Exige with equivelent engine. Exige has 177 as standard but you can have factory upgrade to 190 which most have done. Exige wins on faster corners where it has much more grip.

Upgrades I would recomend are -

Brakes - better discs, I use elise parts and very pleased and try Pagid or SBS pads. Also will want braded lines.

Engine - 190 upgrade - Use the Emerald ECU if you can.

Suspension - Nitrons, stiffer springs, stiffer ARB and solid/nylon bushes.
