Just bought a W reg Elise from dealer, just been serviced and MOT'd. Has had new sports exhaust put on it by them.

Noticed that fumes seem to be comming in from somewhere.

Anyone got any ideas??

Also is it normal for 160 sports to take 2 secs to fire up when turning the ignition key? Could it be a new battery!!

Grateful for comments

What sort of fumes? Exhaust? Fuel? Coolant?

The start time seems a bit long but they're not the smoothest at low revs so it's possible - if it turns over OK, I doubt it's battery.

Smell is unusual, like exhaust fumes!!!never smelt coolant but defineately not fuel.

Thanks for the advice on the start up.

Suspect the rear screen surround, the screen is removable and maybe not been replaced well/correctly. Also is the hood fitting nice and tight. Unlikely to be coming from the front as can't see how exhaust fumes would get that far forward!! Hope this helps.

thinking about it. its like engine heat/oily smell

so it could well be the glass not fitting right

I will check it tonight thanks for your suggestion.

I'm with Stevie - sounds like the foam strip that is glued to the rear screen might be coming off or the screen might be in the wrong way round (the foam strip should be inside the car). Assume this is with the roof on - roof off you smell everything from the flowers to the cows

Best part of Elise driving by a mile... even the cows!

In the last 2 weeks I've driven nearly 900 miles (about 750 of which were roof off) and I can't believe how much fun I've had.

Sorry, back on topic, yep, sounds like the rear screen.
