Stiff Elise Gear change and Emerald ECU

Good Morning All ! I've recently joined the world of elise ownership and have a cool Norfolk Mustard V reg S1. Everything is great except I have 2 questions,
1)Gear changing is tight especially into 5th, I get no crunching but it is stiff, is this normal or is something a miss ?
2) I have an emerald ECU fitted,and when I start in the morning or after work the engine fires then dies then on the second turn of the ignition fires and is fine, is there anything I can adjust ?

No idea on the ECU but you should invest in Eliseparts.com's gear linkage upgrade kit. Costs about £50 and totally transforms the gearchange by making the shifts a lot more positive.
One of the best cheap mods you can do.
Did you fit this yourself Davey? I'm a bit of a technical numptie but I'd be interested in knowing how much of a DIY job it is... incidentally, if anyone's had it fitted did it cost much in labour?
It's one I've been pondering (with the shortshift) as lots of people on here have recommended it as an excellent mod.

No I didnt fit it myself as I am firmly in the numpty category myself but on reflection I probably could have done it in a hour or two. You need ramps to get the car up and take off the undertray but I dont think its difficult.
The only thing you need to be careful of is to check that the linkage is properly adjusted so that you can get all the gears beofre you take the car off the ramp. Otherwise if you cant engage reverse to get the car back on the ramps you are in a bit of trouble.
My car only had about 3000 miles on it when I had the kit put on so the original shift was still quite tight but it still makes a big improvement.
I havent got the short shifter on mine but would do them both together if I was doing it now.

If you are having trouble getting 5th it's usually because the transverse link is the wrong length. You can adjust this with 2 x 10 mm spanners. If I remember right, you need to lengthen it to get 5th and shorten if you can get 2nd. It's a small rod above the shifter cables with the flexible hiem joints at either end. I'd loosen the locknuts and lenghten the rod to see if you can get 5th. Don't forget to cover all the joints with plenty of grease. Cheaper than buying a new kit.
I installed the linkage kit myself recently at it would probably take you about 1-2 hours. It's quite straightforward.
Jack it up (I had all 4 wheels sitting on concrete blocks instead of a ramp).
Remove the undertray and you can clearly see the gear shift linkages. You'd need 2 x 10m spanners, screw driver and an 8mm spanner/ratchet for the undertray.
