fitting gear lever gate??? advice needed

hi chaps,
want to fit mine meself to avoid costs,but on the mk1

it needs two drill holes, are these drill holes the width of the two rawlnuts at the smallest end?

and which way up are the rawlnuts?presumably the flanged end at the top??

struggling... help!
