Gutted.

Driving to meet the South Wales Lotus Club boys this morning for a run through mid Wales and some woman approaching a 90 degree left hand bend locked up, went straight past the bend onto the wrong side of the road and straight into the drivers side corner of my front clam.

Its pretty well smashed up and beyond repair so looks like a new one will be required.

The car felt fine afterwards and I had a look inside the wheel arch but couldnt see any damage to the chassis or the wishbones so hopefully its just the clam.

I drove to meet up with the rest of the boys who gave me lots of sympathy (except for Steff who suggested that a bit of T-Cut and some elbow grease might do the trick ).

One of the guys then noticed that the passenger side front alloy had completely split. The shunt had obviously pushed the car straight into the kerb and shattered the wheel.

To top things off I have the old style alloys which they no longer make so it will either have to be a second hand one or wait to see what the insurance company wants to do.

Looks like I will be Eliseless for a few weeks.

Apart from that it was quite a good run despite a fair bit of rain in the morning.

Off to drown my sorrows now.

My understanding is that whilst your car is off the road you are allowed to have their first born child, and to beat it everytime the feelings of anguish return. English common law.

Devastated, hope everything gets sorted.

At least you are OK!

You'll appreciate it all the more when you get it back. I've been working away and not had much time to enjoy the car, you really do fall in love with it all over again. Remember, "absence makes the heart grow fonder". Trite, anecdotal tosh? Not in this case

Regards, Neil

NOOOOOOO!!!!!

Mate, absolutely gutted for you on the one hand, but pleased to hear no-one hurt. They are after all only our toys.

Meanwhile, if I were you I'd be very, very particular about getting it checked over by a Lotus specialist to do a full chassis alignment check. If you got twatted on one side and then rammed into a kerb hard enough to split the ally I'd be thinking about write-off time.

Don't forget to get your insurance ppl on her case to get some compensation as your car will be worth less now it's been in a shunt if you ever come to sell.

Sorry to be a gloom merchant, just want to make sure you get the best of a bad situation and don't get screwed.

Chin up!

I can only say I too am gutted! I although i guess i only really have myself to blame... I have "cracked" my rear wheel which is just fantastic!

Wet roundabout and perhaps some assistance by oil or diesel.

Anyhow, one of the spokes on the wheel is cracked so its going to be a painful day on my wallet. Does anyone know roughly how much a new S2 elise wheel, the one with 6 single black spokes would cost??

Im praying that the suspension is all ok, how is it possible to properly check it? Only at a lotus dealer??

Sharing with you grief!

They are about 160 rear & 120 front IIRC. You'll need to check suspension mounts etc too and probably get a geo (another 100 quid about).

Thanks Guys.

The car should be picked up in the next few days and taken to the repair centre in Bristol.

Although it pains me to say it I wouldnt be too upset if there was some chassis damage and it was written off. I still have GAP insurance so would get back exactly what I paid for the car 2 years ago and if I put in a copule of extra grand on top I could look at an S2 111S

Have to wait and see what the assesment is.

Phil I'm sure no one on here wants to hear about what you get up to in private

Actually the woman was a peroxide blonde hairdresser who had zebra seat covers (I kid you not)
