Am 300 miles off the dreaded "C" service, which I'm having done at 27k/4years.

I'm having minor heart palpitations at the thought of the cost (as knowing my luck karma won't be on my side and more than the standard service will be required).

So who spent what on their "C" or 27k service and what bits needed doing?

Big deep breath...

I had a B service with the cambelt done as well (so pretty much the same as a C service), together with a few other things and it was over £800 all in

The on its own quote for a C service was about £600 I think (main dealer)

Why not go and see uncle Bruce instead? probably be half that.

You mean you didn't get a quote in advance?

'snot rocket science - whatever you paid for your 'B' plus £200 ish for cam belt... cost depends on how shiny you like your service reception

standard (if there is such a thing) C service is about £500-800 depending on specialist (£45 ph labour) or dealer (up to £90 ph labour!)

I had mine done last week at Sinclaires (£45ph):

2002 June Series 2
54K miles
C service +
new disks
brake fluid
new pads (Pagid RS42)
new steering rack
geo check
adjust window
strip and lube gear linkage
lube heater controls (jammed)
few other bits n bobs

£2100

Im so glad I have a maintenance contract with the PCP and dont have to pay it myself - in 2 years I reckon Ive done about £7K in servicing/tyres and other consumables (now on 3rd set of disks, 5th set of tyres, 3rd set of pads etc)

Was initially going to go to Sinclaires but I need to watch the £'s at the moment so it's off to someone else I trust... Miles @ Fibreglass Services (£35ph + parts).

Bit of a trek down there and will have to buy either Raify or my Dad some big beers for the taxi back, but ultimately if it needs more then Miles is the best value in the S/E I think... plus you get to chat about Lotus, politics and the general state of the nation for free which is always fun!

Please let it go through ok, please please please...

First C service was just that and cost me around £400.

Second C service was £998 including new Disks & Pads.

Third C service is not far away, I am not looking forward to that day.

£455 for a C service on a Mk1 111s. Having not used them before I can thoroughly recommend Nick Whale - Now my only problem is being tempted by the shiny new 111r and s on the forecourt!

Mine was £472 at Sinclaires last month. The cambelt was done last year so didn't need doing again, which saved me a few bob, so basically it was a B service + fuel filter. Oh, and they made my headlamp covers removable so that added a bit to the cost.

get what you can get done at a local garage or do yourself. Disks and Pads you can source cheap. Cambelts can be done by people who know.

Then all you will have to pay for is the basic rate of a C which is what ? £350 or so. You should look at about £750 at an independent all in - but that should get you the car totally refreshed IMHO.

Or do all the bits yourself and take it to Lakeside/Sinclairs or whatever and get them to check it over and stamp the book.

FYI I am a total mechanical numptie... the DIY bit
a) scares the cr@p out of me in case I kill the car or get it apart and can't put it back together again and frankly,
b) I like having the security of knowing that if something goes awry I can go back to the garage/indivdual for recourse.

Thanks for the info though peeps!

Bogie what thickness were your discs. Sinclaires tried to sell me a set when they were within spec a while back.

23mm something IIRC - will have to check on the paperwork..those Pagids seem to eat them - before I went through 1 1/2 sets of pads before the Lotus disks were out...now the Pagids are half worn, but the disks are shagged...but similar mileage...not too bothered as I dont pay the bill though

They shouldn't be replaced until they are 24.0mm (I suspect yours weren't 23.0mm!). They wanted to do mine at 25.0mm which was ridiculous.

Had a C Service done at SJ Sportcars in Crediton back last month, cost was £327 all in. Just a bit of a travel that's all (good fun though). No frills workshop, just good honest service from a bunch of real enthusiasts.

Well, it ended up being a B service (per the handbook schedule plus the belts change). Also needed a new 'zorst as the Lotus (Janspeed) one which had been on since new was falling to bits apparently.

So a B Service, plus belts, plus a B&C stainless steel sports exhaust, with fitting and VAT came to £994.

Not bad all things considered.

Another for Miles @ Fibreglass Services. Good service, keen pricing.

Edited to add: ...and it feels like a new car, really nice pick-up, idles more smoothly & love the sound of the new cans.
