Hi,

I am in the usual dilemma about whether to try and get an S1, S2, VX220 or Caterham as a second car. Obviously I need to drive them all before deciding. I have test driven an S2 at Gordon Lamb, but the S1 is now too old for them to bother with (they say).

Are there any specialists around who may have S1s in stock, and perhaps be able to service them more cheaply than the dealers?

The same question also applies to the Caterham actually.

Any other thoughts and advice regarding any of the above cars gratefully received.

Thanks

Tim

Surely there must be somewhere within 25 miles or so? Or does everyone just go to Gordon Lamb, the main dealer.

Oh well, thanks anyway.

I live in Derbyshire and am not impressed with the customer service of the main dealers in South Yorks and Derbyshire (I won't name them...you know who they are).
The several Liz and Esprit owners I know round my way tend to travel a bit further afield to Paul Matty at Birmingham or the independent Rag Top Roadsters in Cheshire.
I've only had my car a few months so it hasn't been for a service yet - but when it does I will be going to one of the above.
As for buying S1 elises, I'm not aware of any dealer in South Yorks - I would have thought your best bet is to go on the Exchange & Mart or Auto Trader websites - you can do a search within a certain radius and opt for private or trade sales.

I live in Chesterfield so Gordon Lamd's a stone's throw away, bought my car from Exeter because all the main dealers I went to apart from Nick Whales and The garage in Exeter(no longer a dealer) were absolutley awful to deal with, had problems the last time my car went in to GL for a B service. Enquired with Gl about a wheel bearing and not impressed by their response, they would need the car to establish which bearing is was then they would order it and I'd have to book the car in again, estimate of cost £ 390.00
Took the car to Paul Matty's in Bromsgrove, sorted in one morning for £ 130, so I'm afraid you have to do the travel thing
