Problems Filling up
Discussion
Sometimes have this on my S1 - best guess (before someone who knows what they're talking about comes on!) is that I think it has to do with pressure in the tank stopping the flow from the pump (i.e. setting off the cutout).
What I do is when I'm unscrewing the filler cap I do it very slowly making sure I let the pressure release completely (you can hear the hiss as you unscrew).
Then put the nozzle in slowly and begin to fill. I also make a mental note of how much the STACK says was in the tank before I get out and switch my attention from the pump readings to the nozzle when the litres delivered + STACK reading is within 1l of the tank capacity... had a couple of moments when it's spilled over the rear wing before when I wasn't paying enough attention and relying on the auto-cutout from the pump.
Hope that helps.

not an expert but i have this problem with my car. its something to do with the vapiour which is released from the petrol as its pumped into the tank. the vapor builds up pressure and cuts the pump out.
Put the nozel in, but not all the way. Keep a gap between the filling nozzel and the tank. Enough to allow vapor to release without cutting your pump out.
hope that helps
