Well worth getting one IMO. Mine was bought from new @ £1250. Surprised yours wasnt thrown in with your deal. They are expensive for what they are but I think the car looks much better with it on and keeps you warmer and more secure.
Dont believe the rubbish that some people say it takes 20 mins to put on and off, it is an arse, but you should get it down to well under 10 mins once you get the practice in!
There always seems to be 2nd hand ones for sale but by the time youve got the right one and the right colour you might as well get a new one.
Happy hunting...

Mark,
My 111r has both the hardtop and the sports exhaust, and I would heartily recommend both.
The roof takes about 5 minutes to install/remove, after a bit of practice and with a helper to position things. Bad points I would say are that initially, the fixings are a bit fiddly until you're used to them. Also, after a while, when the car is moving over bumps they will creak loudly, which indicates they need tightening up again. The good points are that the car is 100% watertight (apart from when water beads up on the roof and pours onto your trousers when you open the door) and is very civilised and cosy with the roof in place. I also think that it makes the car look very handsome indeed.
The sports exhaust does nothing for performance, I'm told, but does make a much nicer noise than the standard car, which I think sounds rather anaemic. It seems to be well-made and is not too intrusive when driving along. You will know it's there when you open up the engine, though.
Hope this helps! Let me know if you need any more info.

Mark - sorry to hear you are having problems with your 111r. Do you mind me asking what they are?
I had a damaged Stack unit on delivery, and also a persistent rattle coming from the front-passenger quarter on balanced throtle at 3000+rpm. I dropped it into the dealer on Friday for a technician to have a listen to it. They want the car back later this month for the Lotus Warranty man to authorise investigative work to be done.
Somewhat disconcertingly, the technician had no idea what the problem could be, but seemed to be paying alot of attention to the gearbox

That's a Little worrying as I've also got a rattle coming from the passenger side as I said before [K] I took it into Ntc car's for Norman to have a listen to and he said that it's also a gearbox Issue, I've spoken to Stratton's and it's going to be looked at on it's first service only 300 miles to go now, did you see my other thread [K[ I managed to spin it in front of the in laws (GREAT BLOKE NOT !)
Oh dear. I don't like the sound of this.
I was initially told to give mine a few more miles to "settle in" , but the noise has recently been getting worse. Bizarrely, it's less noticeable when 2-up.
The first thing the technician looked at was the gearbox oil level, but further to that he said that he would need warranty approval to have the car in for investigations, so that's booked for 29th. I hope that this is an easily-fixed known issue - did your chap say what the issue was, Boggy?
If I wanted a car that needed a new 'box after 2000 miles, I would have bought a TVR
. That said, after my dealer took a week to get approval just to swap out a Stack unit and fit the thing, I don't hold out much hope for a quick-fix
.

I managed a near-spin in mine a couple of weeks ago when I caught a patch of diesel on the exit of a corner which I had taken enthusiastically. A combination of sheer panic and ABS saved the day, but I kept it on the black stuff and pointing the right way. Close call though - time for me to ring First Lotus or Don Palmer I think!

Well the problems i have had is as follows
1) When selecting 1st gear it goes into revesere as the reverse mecenism sticks
2) The stereo keeps turning on and off and the screen goes blank
3) the leak in the roof is so bad it sets the alarm off even under light rain
4) it stalls all the time and have been told there is a known ecu problem
5) the throttle sticks so needs adjusting
6) speaker rattles in driver side
7) one brake pad is rattling in the caliper
Maybe im being fussy but when you buy a brand new car you expect those to be sorted on the first visit, that was bell & colvill so now im trying amersham.

Hi [karl]
He wasn't 100% sure but he throught that the gear box may need to be re-alined, my clutch doesn't seem to bight untill it's almost at the top either
