I have been offered a track day experience as a clubbed together birthday present. As I don't want to take my beloved elise onto the track, I would rather abuse somebody else's I have been looking around.

The most suitable is a Rockingham experience at 449GBP this is supposed to last one day, not sure how much is track time etc.

Does anybody have experience of this or could recommend an alternative. Yes I know I should take my own car but I feel I wouldn't push it the same.....

Lotus do one at a similar price. Based at Hethel, I think you get quite a lot of driving and tuition as well as a factory tour.

Search the forum for it - someone did it recently and posted on here about the experience. I think they quite liked it.

Either that or spend the money on 2 or 3 sessions with Andy Walsh at 1st Lotus... low risk of stacking and only tyre wear and regular wear n tear to worry about. Everyone speaks very highly of the 1st Lotus days.

I did the Lotus one a few months back - no factory tours at the weekends...

The instructors are great and it's fun and you do get to drive (crash, oops) Lotus' cars. And the beauty is that when you jump into yours to drive home, it feels exactly the same...

In terms of absolute track time, it's not as competitive as perhaps some other options, it is more of a corporate driving type of experience. Having said that, we were only in groups of 4 or 5 per instructor, so there wasn't too much standing around.

I'd recommend it, I did learn a few things that I've carried on with.

I did the £450 Lotus Skills day at Rockingham a couple of months ago. I can't compare with the factory one as I haven't been.

Rockingham day was great fun. 8 people, 4 cars (2 standard, 2 111S), great food, great instructors.

Skid pan in Beemers first then brake avoidance, slalom and stuff in elises. Afternoon on track 20 minutes on/20 minutes off for a couple of hours with instructor. Finish with 3 or 4 laps with instructor driving.

Never done anything like this before but amazed at what I could acheive by the end of the day.

My Type 49 is alot more fun now than it was before!
