Elise worth EUR65k?
Discussion
I am going to buy a new car pretty soon. I live in Moscow and Elise is sold here for 60k euros... (111r)
I've done quite a bit of research and I find that on most forums, elise is considered not to be an exclusive sort of car. More like £15k fun thing... (most people seem to buy used elises). Especially seloc.org. After browsing that forum for a while, I got an impression that Elise was a cheap kind car, and people tend to count every pound whenever it gets to running costs/upgrades.
My opinion is that Elise is more of an alternative to new Boxster (maybe even 911). So, am I completely missing the point?
Best regards, Val.

The Elise has been out in the UK for over 8 years now. When they first appeared, they were more than exclusive.
The original was very basic, and compared to a 111r feels quite cheap. The 111r is a different car all together - 190bhp vs. 118bhp.
You can pick up an old Elise for about £10k nowadays, so there's lots of people with not much money who have spent as much as they possibly can to get the car of their dreams. Hence the penny pinching.
Best thing for you to do is drive a boxster and a 111r back to back and make up your own mind.

In a word...Yes - you have missed the point.
They were only £20,000 brand new when they first came out and are aimed at the 'affordable' sports car market. A track car for the road.
In no way is it a boxster or 911 competitor (in terms of speed maybe) but price, build quality and market - No.
The Esprit maybe-The Elise-No.

Noble is a bit too expensive, and I am a bit worried about TVRs handling... Also I can get only Tuscan here, and IMHO they messed MKII up.
I am looking for a car, that will put a BIG smile on my face and will also be a daily driver. Preferably open top. Boxster just doesnt make it for me. To soft in every respect. Though Elise seems to be awsome (eagerly awaiting test drive).
So i just woundered if it is good enough for 65k + little creature comforts?

The only way to find out is to try it. It really is a love or hate car.
The 111r is a bit more refined these days but is still in the mould of the original concept.
Refinement, Comfort and Luxury are 3 words that don't come with these cars.
If you want what is essentially a stripped out racer (S1) with a little more comfort (111r) then this is it but im thinking you may be disappointed having looked at Tuscans,Nobles etc as in England they are pretty much HALF the price

is any elise more fun to drive than a boxter? imo yes and the base 111r is a lot more refined than mose elises -it is a grown up version of the elise and feels like a proper car. Drive one and you will never want a boxter.
is it worth eur65k -dont know. in the uk it retails slightly cheaper than the box. if a box is eur70k then its an easy choice for you.

Here in Australia, the 111R is subject to LUXURY CAR TAX! so its retail price is AUD99,000. To put that in perspective, the base model boxter is AUD115,000 and Boxter S AUD140,000 and a 3.0L BMW Z4 is AUD92,500.. So here it is an EXPENSIVE car considering the MONARO V8 is under AUD60,000 and a base model GM family car is still AUD30,000
I find that in UK, the price of elise makes it an everymans sports car which people are happy to tinker with- here most people who buy it are considered, comfortably of, and very few touch them (except for some of the older S1's- which by the way still average AUD45,000 for a 1997 model!)
So, no you havent missed the point.. and here you are still considered to be driving an expensieve, and exotic car which is viewed nearly the same way as a ferrari (360 modena retials here approx AUD380,000!!)

Cars are worth as much as people are willing to pay for them.
What exactly are you asking?
Is the Elise worth 65000 EUROS when a Tuscan is worth 70000 EUROS for example ?
In this respect - No. You will get much more 'value for money' in terms of bespoke interiors/v6 engines etc.
OR
Is the Elise worth 65000 EUROS period?
In England the elise cost just under £30k brand new - Whether it is worth this or not is down to your opinion and judgement - For me - NO. it seems too simple a car for this much money but there are more and more buyers in the UK than ever for elise so I must be wrong.
For me... I don't think i could replace the £15000 car I own for less than £30000
Its a fickle business and your never going to make money. If you want the car then you'll buy it regardless of cost. This is how marketing works and how supply/demand is satisfied.

One thing - if the Elise is 60K then everything else must be just as expensive relatively. So I don't understand why you are asking if 60K is to much since obviously a Noble is going to be double that etc. So if everything is relative then the Elise is worth 65k.
Secondly unless the roads have under gone a remarkable transformation since I was last there you're going to have problems with the ride height and suspension on the 'variable' road surfaces once you get off the motorway...
