heloo again, was just wondering what the normal running temperature of my x reg 111s should be, it normally sits around 86 to 90 but when i was sitting in traffic leaving bluewater along with most of the country, it went up to 100 should it get this high? as soon as we moved it dropped back down

Perfectly normal, don't worry! The fan will cut in at 100 and knock it back down.

You sure? My 98 S1 kicks in at 100 and stays on to about 90. Found that one out queuing with zillions of other Elise owners for the classic team Lotus event in the "summer". Boy was that a wet day.

(edit: actually we are talking about the lotus temp gauge here so it probably comes on at 372 and goes off at -47 )

the actual tempis higher than 100 for switch on, yes.

That said, you;re correct that the senders are not great. The one that tells the stack what temp your car is at is different from the one doing the ECU stuff - hence the mismatch from car to car / day to day.

cheers

yer my fan cuts in at 105ish but the dash starts flashing at 100??? lotus querk to make you paranoid i think!
I was looking at the dash of the cabby taking me back from a lash up the other day and his (dodgy) gauges were reading 110 just getting into the red...remember water boils higher when under pressure
