On Saturday I popped to Morrisons to buy a pint of milk or something, and any excuse, jumped in the Elise. My wife suggested that it should never be parked up on a public car park without an electric fence and 3 tough loooking men with guard dogs to prevent the great unwashed from running the key from their bedsit up the side. Is this really a likely prospect? I always park may car well away from others to prevent old people from bumping it with trollies and spraying it with urine, but never thought I had to so extreme as to avoid any public parking.

I have owned 3 Elises in the last 5 years. All everyday cars, covered circa 60K all together. Never experienced a single problem. Parked on the street in London, public carparks, you name it - absolutely fine.
You'll find that the Elise does not attract the damage that e.g. a Boxster or BMW M3 might. All about perception. The Lotus is British and is seen as being driven by enthusiasts, in a responsible way.

Whereas, unfortunately a SMALL minority of Boxster/M3 drivers give the cars a bit of a reputation for being a w*nker chariot.

yeah..don't worry about it too much. like xxplod say's - it hasn't got the same big dick image like the boxster or m3 and the likes.

you still have to be careful where you park it but its not a great worry touch wood.

its a good idea to take anyone who thinks its a 'poser' car out for a ride. I took someone at work who thought i just drove around 'looking good' out for a country blat - the word soon spread

poser - no
enthusiast driver - yes

Yeah I never had trouble and parked in multistoreys etc at times. Main worry was idiots opening doors into the car rather than anything else.

My worry now is that I can't get up/down ramps. There is a car park in canary wharf that I dare not go in because I'm not sure I have enough steering lock to get down the spiral ramp.

DanH, if you're talking about WIQ carpark behind the cinema, I have and you do... For serious carpark scraping fun, try the one by the theatre in Milton Keynes (of Britain's Worst Driver fame). Now that's silly...

I hate to put a downer on this. I use my elise every day but I am exeptionally careful on where I park it. If I am going shopping I will not take the elise. My experience is with many other cars that if it looks special and well cared for some jealous freak will damage it. Go careful, you dont want that to happen to your pride and joy.

I mean the newer one for Waitrose. The lock problem isn't with the Elise, that was fine everywhere. Can't even see where the front of my current car is really and its not worth risking it for a parking space

Was towards the end of last year. On Beulah Road, between St James and Camden road if you know it?

Had both the Elise and Mrs Frizzer's Ford Focus parked outside our house a couple of weeks ago. Woke up to find some person of dubious character had decided to key the Focus but had fortunately left the Elise.
It turned out that at least 7 cars in our village had been keyed and as we live in quite a small community (we indeed have a local shop for local people!) it'll only be a matter of time before the culprit is found and then god help them

Know it well - best mate's family live at the top of St James near the church. Scrotes no doubt.
