anoying accelerator pedal mechanism
Discussion
Hello all,
my accelerator pedal action is a little scratchy. I have tried lubricating the length of the throtle cable exposed when open but this hasnt resolved it. I have also tried applying oil to the complicated arm mechanism bit screwed to the underside of the dash but I dont think there is an oil can on the planet that could reach up there.
Anyone have any suggestions?
Regards,

Hi Guys,
I am having similar problems myself. I have heard that the design of the throttle mechanism is not great, uses a bolt as a pivot I believe. So I was thinking of trying to improve things with some custom made bushes etc.
After attempting several advanced yoga positions I came to the conclution that this would need to be a "pedal box out" job. Guess I could do the squeeky clutch bush at the same time.
Anyway, I have not gone any further since then. Anybody had the pedal box out - is it tricky?

Morgan Sandercock used to sell brass bushes. not tried them and not sure if he still does though.

Is the throttle notchy, like an on/off switch?
If so, it could be a problem at the pedal end - but not neccessarily the bush.
IIRC, the cable was out of adjustment on mine, which made the shoulder of the little rubber cable damper foul either the cable bracket or throttle crank (can't remember which) I adjusted the pedals up to the Lotus handbook specs using the thread adjuster and it's been fine since.
Check it out if your under the dash looking at the bush - you wont want to go there too often (oh missus)
Another under dash tip, get a thick piece of sponge to lie on otherwise the seat front will dig into your back which can be unpleasant...and take your shoes before you start!
