With a new Elise potentially just around the corner, is now a good time to buy a late / low mileage Elise S? Or not? What is the expected impact on residuals and desirability of the soon to be "old" model? I absolutely love the car, but as always worry about what it will return in 2 or 3 years time.

Is there a new Elise around the corner? I've seen no particular reason to believe they'll be replacing the Elise platform in the near future given that they've just shoved the V6 in the Exige.

Assume we're talking 2012/2013 cars here. Its a wonderful car. It will hold its value better than most. Model changes don't seriously affect prices. Series 3 SC change hands at between £25/30K despite the arrival of the S. If you get in at around the £32K mark I would expect after three years it would still be around the £27/28K mark but its purely guesswork. I took a £4K hit on audi after six months. That hurt! But never regretted getting back into a Lotus

Thanks. Talking about a 1 year old, v low mileage, high spec S. I'll own it for 2 years max. Having driven a series of 911s and fast Audis for the last 10 years, I was blown away by what it felt like to return to real driving. Just feeling cautious about new model introduction as I've been burnt badly before. That said, when I look at Elise residuals the trend is certainly v strong.

Oh dear. That isn't happening now.

Some recent Lotus history, including where that show car came in;

It would be nice if there were a new car in the pipeline, but there has been no news of one frown

Just make sure it makes sense financially, I say that as they have a cracking 0% interest finance offer on at the moment which if buying secondhand and on finance may make it more worthwhile to buy new.
