I seem to have a little electrical fault that I wondered if anyone knew how to cure. When I turn the ignition on the car the car's headlights come on, regardless of whether they are switched on or not! It has happened the last few times I have started the car so is not a 'one-off' fault. So far it hasn't caused a real problem, except tonight when the car was a bit sluggish to start due to the cold and obviously with all the headlights on it wasn't helping...Any ideas??

I've had an electrical problem which is connected to the headlights but not the same as what your experiencing.

Could simply be a dead/stuck headlight relay.

Has nay work been done recently to the car or has this developed sponaneously?

Could be that the wand for beam selection on the steering column is either stuck(see if you can move it freely), or has a short circuit .

Thanks all for the advice - much appreciated Just to give you an update things all came to a head today with the car flatly refusing to start at all after a brief run out and then being left for a few hours. Had to call out the RAC and it seems the battery is knackered, and according to the RAC man electrical faults like my headlight one can occur as the battery starts dying. Anyway now have a new battery installed and the headlights seem to be behaving themselves So I have learnt something new for today! Thanks again
