I am currently having an issue with my 111r to which the Lotus field engineer has claimed "they all do that sir". I'm not sure this is right as one or two people have already indicated to me in another thread, so if you have a 111r or series 2 Exige, please post whether or not your car exhibits the following symptoms:

scratchy, rasping rattling noise from the gearbox; may sound like it's coming from the front passenger side quarter due to the acoustics of the chassis/cabin

audible only from 3000rpm upwards, much louder at 4000+

only audible on balanced throttle at those rpm - disappears when accelerating or when backed right off the gas

putting the clutch in causes it to disappear

can be heard if engine is revved whilst stationary

is louder when cold

is less audible with a passenger aboard

gets progressively worse over time

Many thanks in advance for your help

This in nonsense - mine certainly does not do this. In my experience of 111R issues, and I've had a lot, this is a typical Field Engineer lie to try and fob you off. Stick with it.

Indeed, as I have said on the other thread ours doesn't do this. If I were you when you have some replies on this thread, print it out and take it with you.

Good Luck

Just to sum up on mine. It has been pretty faultless only problems were a leak in the foot wells soon fixed and that is it.

The only rattles are a slight one from the drivers door. That is it. The drivetrain sounds faultless with no rattles whatsoever.

I had an Elise S2 before my Exige s2 and the Exige seems better quality than the Elise.
I have no rattles at all but my old elise had a new rattle each time i went out in it, even the tyres rubbed on the wheel arch when i had a passenger.
I was expecting the normal Lotus faults with the Exige but its been perfect.

Lotus Field Engineers. What technical masters they are. I've had one spend 2 days on my car trying to fix a squeak without success. He's just now got to the TADTS stage.

Oh so true - imo they are are an arrogant bunch of no hopers, just there to reduce Lotus warranty costs irrespective of valid customer issues.

Yes. The Lotus warranty. Some warranty. 2 years or 20K. Whichever comes sooner of course. The engines are pretty problem free, the tub causes few problems. My guesstimate is that 90% of Lotus warranty issues are all build quality related.
