What am I to do ?
Having ordered a new 111 R from Westover for January delivery, (very pleased with the deal I have achieved) my dealer calls me this morning and offers me my exact spec (cancelled order or something) with the addition of three years free servicing, provided that I take the car before new year.
Financially and physically it is not a problem for me to conclude the deal within this time frame. I am just a little unsure as to the importance of having an 05 model year in contrast to a December 04. I am planning on keeping the car for a couple of years and wonder what difference to a prospective purchaser a month or so might make ?

not much these days in my opinion...any Elise is usually bought on condition/mileage rather than year...as most owners dont do big miles in them you can find 4 year old ones with like 25K on them - the only time a model year makes a difference is if theyve added major stuff to the spec...which in the 111Rs case they havnt - go for it ...the servicing will make up for it believe me........

I figure that the service deal is worth about a grand, and if you put a Dec 04 next to a Jan 05, same mileage and condition if the Dec 04 was £500 or more cheaper I would go for the Dec 04, but that is just me !
Oh crap.... the more I think about it the more likely I am to go for it.
I don't think the missus wanted anything for Christmas this year any way!!

I'd tell them you not sure if you'll be keeping for 2-3 years and therefore probably wont get the true value of their offer........a sports exhaust may however tip the balance a little better. I reckon their banking on you selling it before the 3 years is up.........the servicing wont be transferable to a new owner I bet.

Well, now I really am in a spot.
Spoken to Andrew, he will fit a sports exhaust provided I give him a decision today, but part of my original deal was two trackdays with them next year, and Andrew has said that if I have the exhaust fitted and as a consequence get thrown off of the track for being too noisy he will not reimburse a cash alternative. I have responded with "well knock the retail price of the two days off of the invoice price of the car". He's going to come back to me on this, but doesn't think that he can swing it.

PS. I know you watch the postings on this site Andrew!!

Trackday silencers?????

you can get them for a TVR - I would assume there must be something similar for a Lotus

I very much doubt a sports exhaust will go over any db limits - especially a Lotus one.

Don't worry - make that call!

Track day lasts a day, an exhaust lasts a good deal longer (unless it's a Lotus original )...if that helps...

The lotus (magnex IIRC) exhaust will be fine for all trackdays! De-cats can be borderline, but still fine on most circuits.

Drew's exhaust should be fine - remember this is a 111R so there is no decat pipe to worry about, merely a stage 2 rear box. We've run customers in Exiges with this system on our track day at Goodwood who have come in at under 98Db, so it should be fine for most tracks.

My arm is truly aching now - been twisted so much, but a deal is a deal and you know what us dealers are like in December...

Stage2 exhausts apparently cause problems on track. What do you care if you get thrown out of free trackdays? Thats a great deal. I'd consider only getting stage1 though if you want to track a lot.

In 3 years that plate difference will be worth about 400 quid tops I would guess. The exhaust alone covers that let alone the servicing and everything else.

Thanks for the input guys, and thank you Andrew for a good deal. Pick up the car end of next week, in time for the Christmas hols. Sports exhaust going on at the first service, which if all goes to plan should be between Christmas and the New Year. Keeping below the VVT change is going to be hell.
