I've just bought a Hurricane for my S2 which is my first mod and it's being fitted on Saturday.

Luckily my brother-in-law is a mechanic and he's doing the job whilst I make the tea!

My question is to anyone out there who has fitted one - if all goes well, how long should it take to fit from beginning to end?

Also, any tips to make fitment easier?

To me, it looks as if you need VERY long arms to reach in to the engine bay to attach the first bit of the Hurricane which takes in the air from the side intake!

I'll let you all know how it goes - hopefully a sports exhaust is next on the list.

Jack up car, remove wheel, pull back arch liner, install 'scoop' on side intake..

Much, much easier! (also to get to the very irritating bolt that keeps the old airbox in place...)

Otherwise it's indeed a very fiddly job. Not difficult, just 'scrape your knuckles and destroy your back' type work...

Bye, Arno.

Well topcat and all the rest of you chaps, what a difference!!

The installation went smoothly, took about an hour in total - I think Arno's advice about removing the back wheel etc would have made things quicker but we didn't have the right equipment.

First drive after letting things warm up nicely was superb in two ways: 1. If you drive normally you can only just detect a slight change in the induction note but when you really open it up it sounds absolutely superb - a real growl at full throttle through the gears!

2. At a 'balanced' throttle for motorwayway speeds it's difficult to tell the difference.

Overall, well worth the money, the car now sounds a bit more like a sports car and not a sewing machine.

It looks good in the engine bay too - I opted for a silver one but they come in a variety of colours and for a bit extra a carbon fibre version is available.

Anyway the Hurricane is my Xmas present - i'm so pleased with it i've forgiven my wife for inviting her parents round on Xmas day - they don't like/understand performance cars and drive a motorhome!

Cool, that must make it sound much better. Every one loves the way my exige sounds except me. They say it sounds like a real sports car. i think it sounds like some lads nova with a baked bean can on it. That is until it reaches the second cam, then its like a motor bike. Lovely and high revving. I am looking forward to the induction kit arrivng. I have a trip planned this weekend and hope the bits arrive before hand. I can frighten a few people withthe F1 like noise its supposed to make.
Have fun Tim. Good work.

Thanks Topcat - having sampled 'your' Toyota engine in standard form at a Lotus Driving course I thought it was a real screamer anyway - I reckon with the air filter and exhaust upgrades it will sound just like your car looks in your profile - the 'mutts nuts'!!

Cheers

Great post Tim... I've been umming and aahing about this for a while and the chance of even more noise at motorway speeds was what was stopping me going for it.

Birthday present to self come Jan it is then. May even get my fingers dirty and try to fit it myself!

Cheers S works - I would not umm and ahh any longer.....you know it makes sense!

I was wary about doing this because the last car I 'modded' in any way was 17 years ago, I stuck a K+N on my XR2 and the result was crap - having a carb not fuel injection, all it did was misfire at high revs on the motorway - I think the carb needed re-jetting or something.

I guess with the wonders of modern engine management systems sorts this problem out now - I meant to say that the 'liz idles perfectly as before.

I think the important point to make when choosing an aftermarket air filter like this is to get one that gives a good blast of COLD air into the system which is what the Hurricane does. I have read posts on here of people who have changed from K+N and others because if any 'warmer' air from the engine bay gets inducted into the engine the results are disapointing.

Incidentally, anyone know what kind of hit you take on insurance for this mod? What does it give in terms of bhp/torque improvement can I expect on a standard 118 K series with Bell & Colville Sports cans?
