I've finally destroyed my standard front discs ( 1999 ) & I'm interested in alternatives to the standard items including the cross drilled Lotus parts.

Additionally any advice for replacements to my P zeros. The car does dry days & track days by choice & about 3000m / year so prefer grip over longevity.[/quote]

if it´s not your daily driver I´d go for the A048s any time. Maybe get Nitrons as well.

Forget the X-drilled ones. They don't bring you anything, just grief..

Just get a set of EBC Turbogroove discs. Cheaper than the Lotus ones and last longer too. HiSpec also sell S1 discs AFAIK.

Bye, Arno.

my brakes have also lost all feel and I have lost all confidence in them - they don't impress me anymore. I think the discs need replacing - how much for EBC grooved discs and what pads should I go for - EBC greenstuff? Have had the standard Mintex ones in the past

Possible.. Measure the disc wear and also the pad wear.

Brake pads should be replaced when they have approx 2mm of liner material remaining. Minimum disc thickness should be in the service manual somewhere..

One option:

Greenstuff V4's are OKish for the road, but die quickly on the track.

Pagid RS4-2's are pretty much 'top of the line' for balanced and all-out performance (but expensive..)

Seems like Mintex-1144's are a reasonable compromise for cost/performance.

Bye, Arno.

So 125 plus VAT and then you need new pads. How much for fitting?

I took my Elise for a testdrive on Saturday and the brakes were poor - first mod me thinks!

What car have you got currently? The reason I ask is that I had a BMW before the Elise which had very heavily assisted brakes. When I got in the Lotus I thought the brakes were terrible but you just need to get used to them.

The hardest thing is then driving assisted brakes again. You go to slow down and end up headbutting the windscreen when they almose lock up!

How about these tyres?

Also, i have green stuff pads on mine and find them to be very good on the standard drilled 111s S1 disks. However i've also put briaded brake hoses on and the peddle feel is transformed. Very good and the brake peddle odsen't get squidggey on trackdays or hard driving. D4V KC
