Handling on my Elise Sport 160 hasn't been at all impressive. I had put it down to the wet weather and the fact that it's running on Pirelli P Zero's ... thought I'd check the tyre pressures out too and they're running at 15 psi and 16 psi on the rear. Now at correct pressures and it's made all the difference! Would defo reccomed checking on any cars that sit idle for a while. Are the Advans really worth forking out for - I'm half way through my current set.

One word of warning on tyres. I inflated my tyres using the digital type compressor at some petrol stations and the handling was awful. I re-checked the pressures at another station and although there was a difference it wasnt that much. As the handling was still bad I purchased a 'professional' standard digital pressure gauge and low and behold all my tyres were about 4-5 psi out from what the compressors said. Corrected the pressures and all is well in the world.

Hate to say it but those P Zero's are useless in the wet, try the Advan's...soo much better

£400 for a set of Advans ( they really are worth it) or several grand for a new clam, respray, geo etc if you punt it backwards into a hedge on these nasty slippy winter roads?

Small price to pay - really the P Zero's are complete crap Simon.

Give Miles @ Fibreglass Services nr. Arundel (I think you're down that way aren't you!?) a ring - he'll be able to source you some and have them fitted almost immediately.

As I understood it wasn't so much that P-Zero's are rubbish, but in the cases where cars still have them on the tyres are typically 4-5 years old, this then means that rubber has begun to perish ?

I run T1-S's haven't really had much experience elsewhere to compare it, however I understand that they are considered to be better than the T1-R's in the wet, and either of the Toyo Proxies are considered cheaper but very reasonable alternative to the Advans ?

IIRC the main problem with the P-zero's is that they weren't designed for a car as light as the Elise.

Apparently they're not THAT bad in the dry once warmed up but in the wet they simply don't have a decent enough footprint and grip.

Compared to the Advans they are complete cack.

Thanks all on your quick responses. I'll definately be on the look out for some new Advans when finances permit! At the moment I'm getting over the enormous effect that the change in tyre pressures has had... will be in for another suprise after Christmas with the new tyres too!
