My 1st post here, so go easy...

I'm hoping to become an Elise owner in the very near future & have some test drives booked this weekend. I'm looking at a second hand S2 Sports Tourer or 111S to use everyday as my only car...

I've been reading this forum along with SELOC, elisetalk, elises.co.uk (what a great site!) and elise-faq.info with interest and have a mixture of numpty questions...

1) Are Bridgestone Potenza RE040 the standard tyres?
2) How long would you expect a set to last with everyday use?
3) Has anyone actually used the puncture kit and how tricky is it?
4) Are any of the body colours prone to fading (looking at Ardent Red)?
5) Anyone ever dealt with Strood Motors in Kent?
6) Are RAC/AA checks worthwhile for Elises, or do I need to get it done by a specialist?
7) Does the VIN info at elises.co.uk apply to S2s as well?
8) Do all 111S' come with a factory hard top as standard, or has this just been introduced?

9) To satisfy my own curiosity (but out of my price range), what is an Elise S (04MY), eg:

www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=34916&s=12

is this the same as a 111S, or a special edition, I don't see it mentioned at www.elises.co.uk/models.

Finally, enjoy the SELOC Winter Warmer if you're going on Sunday!

Many Thanks.

Thanks Mustard, much appreciated... I'm just trying to figure out the logistics of getting a car checked by a specialist (like Lakeside) before I've bought it (I'm in Guildford area)?

I don't suppose any of them will go along to the dealership in Kent? I'm currently driving a rental car and so don't have my own insurance policy... I think I'm being over cautious/daft, any good suggestions?

Thanks again.

Buying a low mileage S2 from a reputable dealer you should have very little to worry about, far similar exercise than buying an S1 as most of the inherent S1 faults were fixed in the S2 and it will obviously be newer

Does Adrian Blyth have anything of interest, you'll have to excuse my geography but hes not so far away from you is he?

Niki, I think Mustard has noted good answers to most of your q's, as to AA/RAC vs. specialist checks don't waste your money or time on the former. If you read what they actually will check over it's not worth the paper it's written on.

For specialists, Sinclaires of Romford may be able to help you with a check-up, and NTC Cars in Dartford have been well recommended who aren't far from Strood so maybe they can help. You'll probably have to get the car to them though, best if you do because then they can get it up on ramps and give it a full going over. IIRC when I was looking Sinclaires quoted around £150 for a full check-over which I believe was pretty much a full checklist of what would be done for a C service and then checks on other known problem areas.

Re: mustards note on Adrian Blythe they have an S2 135 which looks very nice IMvHO. Have you considered that variant as an alternative to the 111s - similar performance, might be worth a trip down to have a look. I think they also have a 111s there so you could try them back to back probably. Helpful friendly bunch too by all accounts.

Best of luck and enjoy shopping - now's a great time to be buying.

Aye, that is one tasty looking car! I'm a big fan of that colour and Magnetic Blue too, but I'm going to need to keep some cash for those pesky insurance people :-P
