My wheels are just beginning to taint in the 'dirty corner' where the spoke meets the rim. Noticeable only if your finnicky (probably good considering 23,000 miles). I have never used wonder wheels on the elise just given the wheels thorough coats of wax, what do you suggest and what works.

One reason for the question was finding out that the quick clay from mequiars is fantastic. It gets all the bobbles etc from tree sap off the paint, and leaving it as smooth as a smooth thing although you do have to rewax the car. Could this be used on the wheels.....

not on elise (not got it yet!) but on Tuscan and on Mini I use Auto Glym Super Resin Polish. it is mildly abrasive so lifts off dirt etc.

Wonderwheels is pretty good but best done with the wheels off the car so that the WW liquid is kept off the hubs etc as it can strip the finish. Work it into the corners with the small brush supplied and rinse it off after a few minutes. It's easier to wax the wheels inside and out when they're off the car, as well.

I just cleaned the same nasty stuff from the same spot on my rims using Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover and a toothbrush. Worked fine.

I use AG clean wheels every now and again. I always make sure I give them a good wash after using it and they are fine. Never had any problems with any alloys I have had.

Ditto the above, use a toothbrush to get into the corners and rinse well. As mentioned above trick is not to let the brake dust build up and eat into the alloys.
