Hello everyone,

Weird one this.

I've noticed recently that it is difficult for me to precisely "blip" the throttle on my S1 Liz.

I thought it might be cable slack etc so checked all that (at both ends) - no problems.

I did notice that there is a funny little "o" shaped rubber gromet at the end of the cable, where it meets with the pedal throttle linkage.

When I press the pedal, this grommet has to first "squash" before movement is transmitted to the linkage. It seems to be acting as a damper.

Does anybody know what I am talking about, and would removing it be a bad thing? It seems that without it, I would have a more direct action?

Any thoughts?

See if you can get a replica of the grommet made out of delrin or or Uretane.
Mexican-built Golfs in the 'States had those rubber bushes. Often the cable would pull out of the grommet leaving you at idle.

Dss123,
have u had a good look at the throttle linkage under the dash, because i had extra play and found it was just a lose screw and nut on the linkage? but it was a slag to tighten. so good luck mate!

Cheers Mutt,

Yeh it was under the dash that I cam across this rubber gromet thing. I think it is supposed to be there, but it just seems too soft and squashy and takes the fine control out of the linkage?

Might try and replace or refit?

Can't remember who said it, Morgan Sandercock (he supplies replacement brass bushes for the throttle linkage) I think, but if you remove this grommet it makes the throttle feel really 'grindy', basically because the throttle cable so long.
