Being a very new 340R owner and having only driven two different 340R's to date, I would welcome your comments.
Both 340r's I have driven have been the same, it what I would describe as (possibly expected from an engine in a high state of tune) ie it performs best at high rpm. Let me describe the characteristics - a bit lumpy below 2500rpm, loves it and eager above 4000rpm.
Also when you floor the throttle quickly, off load for example when wanting to get the revs up changing down a gear, it will hesitate before the revs pick up if you are below 4000rpm but is fine above.
I guess what I am asking is, and I am probably answering the question myself, due to the fact that they have squeezed so much out of this k series engine is it normal to have to keep the revs up to avoid hesitancy. Dont get me wrong, it will labour at lowish revs if you try but its not happy and has on one occasion fouled a plug.
Is it the car or is it me ?

TADTS (Thay All Do That Sir).

It's characteristic of the cam set up and timing. You can make it more useable in the midrange by setting the timing up a little less aggresively.

Basically, it's set up to be peaky and when it's 'off cam' it's a bit lumpy, and very much as you describe. The 340 / exige setup is much better than some tuned versions in he elise as they often run on a plenum and one throttle body, which really makes them run rough - eg the sport 160s.

Cheers

I had my standard 340R on a rolling road a couple of weeks ago.

The is a slight dip in the torque curve between about 3000-4000 revs.

The Exige also had the same thing.

So I guess that it is a trait of the VPHD
