Hi, Im changing the front discs and pads on my S2 (see profile) over the weekend and i would like to clean & paint the calipers whilst i have the brakes stripped.

Has anybody done this before, if so what paint have you found the most durable to the harsh conditions or what should i stay clear of. I was thinking of using smooth hamerite(red).

Any thoughts, experiences on this would be much appriciated (inc. colour choice)

I wouldn't use hamerite as its not temperature resistant.

There is a proper caliper paint you can use they probably sell it in halfrauds/demon theives.

Yeah I agree, don't use hammerite it will not work.

Halfords do sell it circa £30 I think they only do it in red. If you don't use heat resistant paint it will burn and smell.

There is a section on this on Stefan's homepage on SELOC.

Have a search on SELOC for Stefan (he's German but dont hold thast against him ) and you should get a link to his homepage which has lots of pics of his. Quite a bit of hastle but they look good.

Just Been reading this thread - and I'm interested in his 'jacking procedure'

He says he uses 2 jacks, but can you ( and I have never lifted my car like this ), I've not needed to, but I have considered:

1) Lift from point A on one side...
2) Insert stands at points B & D
3) Lower Jack - run round other side...
4) Lift from point A on the other side
5) Insert stands at poits B & D

Hence only using one Jack ( I only have one )

Would this work without damaging the chassis??

I've jacked up my car like this when I took all the wheels off to get them balanced.

Jack up one side and I used a blocks of wood on top of my ramps (more stable than axle stands), then just lined up the blocks with the correct jacking positions and lowered the jack. Then did the other side lowering them onto the axle stands.

Just be careful to use the correct jacking points and go slowly.
