With all the chat of sticking honda and audi engines in the back of the Elise:

Is it too far fetched to take a Toyota engine + box out of a stuffed MR2/Celica/111R, aquire a 111R rear subframe and stick this all in an old S2?

Surely this would make for one hell of a cheap 111R level of fun.

Any thoughts?

yes - possible, but not cheap...the engine might well be £1500-2000 ...its getting it in the car thats the problem. OK if you are a good mechanic with all the facilities and a month or two to spend sorting it all out I guess

If you succeed check out the power modded turbo MR2 can generate, 400+. And one of the strongest boxes out there. Basically the same as the Celica GT4's which were about twice the weight.

I suppose theoretically it could be done as after all the 111r is a development of the S2. Don't forget everything else that changed on the R - suspension, wheels/hubs, cooling, engine ancillaries, zorst, etc. By the time you bought all the bits from Lotus, my guess is that it would probably be as cheap to PX an S2 for a genuine R!

Interesting thoughts. Especially the thought of a 400bhp elise that would be interesting!

Surely buying second hand parts like driveshafts, hubs etc would be cheaper than fashioning ones for audi/honda units etc?

Don't really see the point in putting all that effort in to fit a toyota engine, the Honda is far far better.
