Got this really annoying rattle coming from "the front somewhere"

If I just touch the brake pedal with my foot it stops. Lift it off and it re-appears.

Any ideas?

Well, just keep your foot off the brake pedal.
Press the right hand pedal harder.
If you can hear rattles/creaks/sound system then you're just not trying.

Welcome to the Lotus Elise

Could be the pads in the calipers. If so you need the self-adhesive rubber from Elise parts.

There is a link somewhere on how to fit pads and covers this.

Anybody have the link?

Neil,

Could be brake pads?

They need to allow for expansion when hot. As a consequence they tend to be a fairly "loose" fit inside the caliper. There are springs in each caliper that reduce the tendancy for the pads to rattle. I guess they could be damaged?

If you have not already, you could also fit brake pad buffers. These are little rubber strips that stick to the caliper where the pads "knocks" (get them from eliseparts).

Hope it helps

Cheers guys.

Doing some extra listening it does seem to be coming from the near-side wheel somewhere.

Re. not trying hard enough - its when queueing in traffic that it becomes really annoying. Once free of the shackles of urban traffic, can't hear shit now that the de-cat pipe is back on.

Awesome

Hey there,

listeneng to your description it seem I have exactly the same annoying rattle coming from the front of my car too! And like you if I apply some brakes, away it goes. I'm going to have a look at my brake pads tonight and see if I can see any movement. BTW do you get it mosly over slighly uneven surfaces (kind of high frequency ripples in the roads) ?
