dealer/specialist loca to you is the safest bet. If buying private then from an enthusiast owner - on the classifeds here or also try www.seloc.org

Be prepared to travel a bit to see a variety of cars. Surely it's worth extending your search a bit to find the best one for your cash.

Lots about at the moment so still great deals to be had.

Hi there,

Echo Sworks' comment. Be prepared to travel and drive lots of cars.

I bought a Subaru Legacy Estate last year, and travelled over 2000 miles around the country to find the right car. You would be amazed at the difference between examples. These cars are relatively rare, as is the Elise, therefore to not restrict yourself with cars in your local area.

Make researching, looking and finding the car part of the fun of elise ownership, turn trips into days out and I promise you that you'll end up knowing you've bought the best car available, and have learnt so much about these cars.

When I buy something I generally find the looking to be as much fun as the ownership. The Elise is one of those rare products where the ownership (driving) makes you forget all that has gone before. Be careful don't rush in, even poor examples of these cars will have a tendency to seduce the potential purchaser.

Good luck and have fun. Regards,

Neil

"poor examples of these cars will have a tendency to seduce the potential purchaser"

This is particularly true for the elise.
When my Esprit was again at the garage to fix something else, the dealer "give" me a nice and original Mk1 elise, rattling everywhere, windows not opening, 12V outlet not working (for my mobile not the frigobox) and raining (a little bit) inside. I was almost ready to buy it because it was so nice to drive, to slide, to turn,... I really discovered a new world.

SO TRY SO MANY CARS YOU CAN

Ben (who finaly sale his Esprit to order a new Elise because the difference between nearly new and really new Elise in Belgium is not so big compared to the price of the car)
