As i currently drive a civic type-r with a hondata ECU remap i am interested in this combination! does anyone own an elise with the vtec engine? i would be interested to know if the engine uses the standard ecu once transplanted or if a custom map ecu is used. if it is standard, i can only imagine what the hondata flash would do to the performance and drivability of an elise.

from doing a bit of research it seems that the engine transplant costs around 10k. past experience however suggests that if one were to buy a second hand elise with the engine already installed, much of this cost would have been absorbed by the person that did it, as modifications rarely retain much of their original value once on the secondhand market. is this wishful thinking or a realistic line of thought?

i welcome your comments!

I driven a few of them, and know a bit about them. I believe the conversion retains the std ECU, with a piggy back ECU (K-Pro?) used for a remap - so most UK engines, with exhaust/manifold/induction kit (as in the conversion) make around 220bhp anyway.

They do seem to be holding their value well at the moment Im afraid, as they are in big demand, and the most popular of engine conversions. This means that the only ones that come up for sale, are snapped up for a healthy price premium over the base car. Ive only ever heard of one being sold - to be honest, the tyep of people having this conversion, are doing so, with the aim of keeping the car a long time - its usually a 2nd or 4rd fun car, and you dont want to invest £10K in it and then sell 6 months later.

If you want the conversion, then get saving up

just to add some bones to this...

conversion wise, depends on what you order. as a base the kit comes with a re-flashed ECU mapped for the installation (ie. the exhaust and induction used in the installation). there are options from this including longer primaried 4-2-1 manifolds (with appropriate maps) and Superchargers (again with maps).
