I'm looking at some of the options that are available and have quickly come to the conclusion that it could be easy for me to make a mistake when it comes to these gadgets.

Has anyone else got experience of any of the products out there or has any advice on them - including possible legality issues?

Do some work better than others - what are the main features to look for etc. Any info. would be appreciated.

Cheers

i use road angel, it is great in unknown areas, you just cannot fault its accuracy. a bit of a pain in areas i know, all these alerts!!! the laser detector has never gone off so i cannot vouch for that aspect of it. would not be without it now, even swap it to my other car when i HAVE to use it instead of the LIZ. Grear for setting your chosen max speed as well, cos its easy to get carried and then taken away!!!I think the laser detector part would make it illegal when the new road saftey bill goes through, but we have a few months yet with blair calling this popularity poll for 5 may.

I have an Origin B2. Absolutly BRILLIANT. Gets every single camera even temp ones in roadworks. The laser detector works and has saved me! It will only warn you if the camera is a threat (pointing the wrong way) and I wont drive without it.

Use a road angel two. Nice design and good for the cameras. Not to suer about laser though, didn't warn me about a camera van last wek, makes say the van operator has to point laser at you for it to work. He has to take two readings so by the second one you should have slowed.. Not convinced!

I'm looking at similar, Road Angel seems to be the weapon of choice but only worth it if you rigged up a laser jammer which of course is naughty, naughty. Lets face it, once you get zapped you're fed so there's not much point in something bleeping at you to confirm what you already know.

What I'm most concerned about is these insidious bl--dy specs cameras so I've decided that the most sensible route for me is to wait for the new TomTom software to come out in May and get a PDA/GPS nav system which you can download speed camera databases onto for free.

Totally portable, has good battery life so does not need to be wired in, and you also get a nice shiny new handheld too.

Is there any info on the net about that Mr Works? A GPS nav system including features of Road Angel would be pretty cool! But I'm assuming in this case that it would only be fixed cameras on the database.

Also, from what I've read, the Road Angel can be used on some handhelds as the GPS antena for use with a mapping system. Has anyone got any experience of doing this? Does it work well?

Another vote here for the Origin B2. I had a couple go bad on me (speaker problems - sorted quickly and with compensatory subscription extension) but when it comes to the database of camera locations, it's first class and updated every few days. Well worth having, particularly when driving through unfamiliar areas.

You cant use a laser jammer but you can have a laser garage door opener. It does exactly the same thing and is totally legal. My suggested set up for the ultimate protection is an origin B2 with laser garage door openers front and back, remove the laser detector (you wont need it) and replace with a radar detector. About £2k !!

So far I have the Origin and big plans of never being caught. The guy who sold and fitted the origin swears by the micropilot. Dont know anything about them. It seems every fitter has thier favourite.

Any experiences with the K40 System with their optional Jammer?
