Just noticed a resonance or vibration at about 3000 revs on my S2, its got the janspeed exhaust which is loud - but this is really annoying.

Is there any common cause for this ? I was going to try and have a look tonight, check all the mounts are tight / attached ?? Any other things to check ?

Cheers

Paul.

Sounds like you may need the 'Anti-Tizz' bracket - I've had this problem on both my S1's. From memory this is a fabricated bracket that attaches some part of the exhaust to a part of the engine to stop the resonance you hear. Think you can get the part from a Lotus dealer.
Good luck,
Richard.

I have heard of that before, but I've had the car for about 5 weeks and its never done it before, just started this morning. It does sound like something has come loose or moved a little . . .

Here's a link to that bracket - www.elisenet.plus.com/AntiTizz.htm
The other possibility is that perhaps the undertray has become slightly loose? Worth checking all fixings as well.

S2's don't need a Anti-Tizz Brackets like the S1's do.

I had exactly the same on mine with the janspeed exhaust. Nick whale had a look at it and found a cd wedged under the passenger seat which was vibrating like made when you accelerated to around 300RPM

I'm not saying that you have a cd stuck under your seat but it pays to check to see if there is something there. Remember the Elise has hardly any sound proofing so the slightest thing can vibrate like mad.

Once the offending CD was removed I could still hear a slight noise when accelerating to 3000rpm or when my revs started to drop to around that point. So I spoke to nick whale again and they said that there is nothing wrong with the exhaust or fittings.

Just turn your stereo up! or drive faster

Check the downpipe under the engine is not making contact with the under tray. Also have a look at the exhaust mountain rubbers.

This cured my S1 vibration at 3500 revs.

Has the exhaust flexi section gone?

I've just changed mine as it used to rattle like buggery at about 2700 rpm.
