Any suggestions on what I should do with the car whilst it sits imobile for 3 weeks.
Seem to recall that the Alarm drains the battery after a period of time, iirc its 2 weeks. Anyone else recall this.

And no I wont lend it to someone else to look after for me.

This is my first posting so hi everyone. I recently left my 2 year old S2 on my mum's driveway (safest place in the world, no-one would mess with her) for 18 nights while I was in the States and on my return it started first time. This was despite several nights of freezing temperatures and with the alarm activated. I also have a tracker somewhere on the car but don't know if there's a drain associated with this. Biggest problem on my return was unlocking the "frozen" brakes even though I left the handbrake off. Given the age of your car, I think you'll be OK unless the 111R battery is smaller than the S2 one.

Hi!

Best thing I ever bought for my car (ok, second best) was this...

www.calamander.co.uk/batteryconditioners/airflow.htm

an Airflow Battery conditioner. I stored my Escort Cosworth for 6 months (done properly). With the battery and alarm etc. I simply plugged it in to that, and the day I wanted to start the car, went first time no probs. It works not just by trickle charging, but by using the battery and keeping it 'conditioned'.

For £40 it's a GREAT piece of kit, I highly recommend!! (PS: No I don't work for them but was just very very impressed with their product)

Hope that's of help
Tony

forgot to say...it can actually work as a charger as well. You simply plug it in to the battery and it does what is needed to be done

Another vote for the airflow - great bit of kit. My S1 regularly gets hooked up for 3 months at a time - no probs. Would also invest in a plug & socket to stop having to fiddle about with crock clips everytime.

Tony, Don't think it actually "exercises" the battery, but what it does do is switch charge off when the battery's full and on again when the alarm (and chemistry) have run it down a bit. Slightly different to a plain trickle charge which basically just charges so slowly that it's more or less impossible to over charge (heat) the battery. Just a small point...

Hi All

I am an Elise owner to be soon and have enjoyed flicking through some of your posts. For now I dont know too much about the Elise so for now I will be asking more questions than answering but I will always try ot offer help where I can.

For now though a question. Will one of those solar chargers from maplin work? Someone said that some modification to the cigar lighter socket these type of chargers fit to. These are a better bet for me as I have no garage and it isn't practical to run a power supply to a charging unit. Has anyone else used one of these?

Hi the battery does drain pretty quickly. My charriot is not used much in the winter. I went to halfords and got a Draper Trickle charger for about £15 does the job. There were more expensive ones but there was no need to condition battery etc.
