My first 'proper' day in my new Exige boils down to this:

Took car to Willaims in Bristol.
Got 1000 mile service and stage 1 exhaust.
Excellent service - nice, knowledgeable guys.
Service & exhaust fitting took a while, but managed to scoff a McMuffin and see Hitchhikers guide film whilst stuff was being done. All went well.

…Birds twitter merrily in cloudless(ish) blue skies.

Open her up for the first time (>5000 rpm whooo) around Brecon / Abergavenny roads. Exhaust sounds fine. Starting to give her some stick for the first time.

Loud chaffing noise...
Turns out to be the front wheel-arch liner has come adrift. By the time I can pull in, the liner has been pretty shredded. Can't do much with it except try to fold/poke it out of the way. Eventually rubbing noise stops as the wheel wears the liner away.

On the way back to Cardiff, I notice a white car following close behind.
I accelerate a bit (she's loosened up nicely in the last few days) but notice that the following car has flashing blue lights on top (you can't see too much out of the back of an Exige).
Three points and £60 quid.

In the words of Marvin:
'I think you ought to know I'm feeling very depressed'.

Bad luck mate, counds cack... The weekend will be better.

In the exige is difficult to see what's behind you alright, until it's too late. I have adjusted my mirrors so I have a full view of behind me, looking through the vents is useless.

Oh and look out for white cars!

Presumably the liner is a warranty fix. Unlucky on the points though

I'm a couple thousand miles on from the first service now with my Exige. As the weather improves it is spending increasing amounts of time in the loud part of the rev band! I think I can safely say all the good days you have ahead of you will definitely outweigh the bad one you've just had!

In other words 2bit you tried to race a police car? When you say "you accelerated a bit", how much is a bit? Obviously not enough if they managed to catch you!

Sorry to hear you got points on your licence. Sounds like you've been really unlucky.

sorry to read your story 2bit, but its just sooooo tempting to hit the loud pedal. on the subject of rear view mirrors, I was after a smaller one to replace the oversized thing in the R, it just wastes valuable views of the road ahead with useless views of the inside and rear panels.
Anybody found a smaller replacement yet?

Hi all.

I've cheered up now. Had a great weekend.
Spent yesterday over at Hethel on the 'Scare yourself sensible: extended' day (two 15min circuits) in a 111R.
Nice stay in De Vere Dunston Hall on Friday & Saturday night.

My first visit to Hethel was in March on a S.Y.S. day (xmas present). Liked it so much we booked again.
My 'technique' got torn to bits by my instructor Dave on the first circuit session. Made a HUGE improvement on the second session.
This is going to be addictive... got to do some driver training.
