Hello all

Just about to order set of boots for the rear of my S2. Going through the web sites for tyres and they are coming up with a number of different varients for the RE040s (BW/90W/91Y etc). Anyone got the definative answer? Also any cheaper than usual places to get them from?

Thanks very much.

I'm going through the same thing skinner. If I find the answer before you do I'll let you know. A mate had some put on at Sinclaires for £280 a few weeks back.

Minor typo from Mustard there, front tyres have CFE dot code, and rears DCK as he says...

I've just had a pair of rears fitted at Bracknell Tyres for around £97 each. I specified the DCK coded tyres, but I've ended up with CFE coded rears :-(

The whole tyre code issue crops up time and time again :-( Even Bridgestone seem to have their wires crossed...

I believe the CFE coded rears are designed for the VX220, but the consensus is that you can't tell any difference between the DCK and CFE coded rears (I certainly can't).

As far as the load/speed ratings are concerned, the original 90V tyres aren't made anymore, so you'll get 90W or 91W.

Thanks for the replys.

Got a pair sorted for £115 a corner (fitted at work, balanced etc).

Correct fitment seems to be 225/45/17 90W BZ. Clear as mud then

Yep, that's the correct size, load/speed rating and compound (BZ), but you should also see something like:

EJH8 DCK 4104

on the tyre. The first four digits signify the company/factory where the tyre was made (ie Bridgestone somewhere in Japan), the last 4 digits specify the week and year of manufacture (wk 41, 2004 in example above), and then there's the all important DCK code in the middle which indicates specific tyre contruction differences for the Elise tyre, compared to a standard Bridgestone RE040 without this code, or with a different code.

At most places, you will have to call them up and tell them you have an Elise and you need the DCK DOT coded Bridgestones... then keep your finger's crossed.

Happy motoring :-)
