I have a dilemma in that Im really enjoying my standard S1 but I am now tempted by an S2 with a bit more power (111r/160).

I use the car as an everyday commuter but would like to do the occassional track day too.

My options are:

a)to trade in soon for an S2 - possibly 111r but this would be stretching the budget a bit.

b)run the S1 for a little longer, get more track days under my belt and revist the S2 idea next year (when there should be more 2nd hand one out there).

c)get some more serious upgrades like cam work, ecu etc on the S1 and revist the S2 idea next year+.

My query is will engine upgrades make the car harder to sell in the future and am I going to compromise reliability too?

Cheers,
pop

If its an everyday car with a few track days I would go for an S2 111S.

Dont bother modding your S1 if you may sell it in a year or so as you wont get any of the money back when you sell.

My, inexperienced, view of this is simple: S1 vs S2. If you have always craved an S2, go for one. If you'd 'take it or leave it' so to speak, then perhaps do the engine work on the S1.

OR....don't spend the money, enjoy your S1 this summer/year, then use that little bit of extra money to stretch that budget to the 111R you mentioned next year.

Good luck

Agree totally with others comments.
S1 fans are very passionnate people doing a lot of track days, modding their car and liking the pure spirit of lightweight. and I suspect they are really quicker than the...111 R then.
For a more useable car and efficacy on track , the 111S or R are the best. if budget is a issue, I have heard that 111S are no more on list. So either run to the dealer for the last or wait for a R.

Between us , I believe you will change because everybody who post this want to move...up

I was in a similar position before El Beast got lunched. Now I am looking at top notch S1 Sport 160S's and considering S2 111s and 135R's.

At the far end an S2 Exige is attainable but I'm struggling to justify £30k's worth of car sitting on the road 5 days a week.

As I type, I think I know what I want... but I'm not telling just yet

Anyway, back to you pop me old china... if I were you I'd go and test drive some S2's before you make your decision. Great time to do it now while the weather's good.

Don't forget the S2 chassis and ride was dialled out to be more compliant than the S1 (when running standard) so you'll note different handling characteristics. I'm getting ready to try some S2's but the thought of skinny front tyres and understeer does not appeal, hence the 135R on the list... and then there's HGF. Grrr...

Thanks for the advice. Lots of test drives it is then to help me make my mind up.

Thanks for reminding me Twin that all we really want and need is an Exige... you might not be wrong there mate.

Did you catch the photos by the way?

I'm going the opposite way! I have an S1 Sport160 but will probably sell at the end of the summer for a rough high mileage s1. I can then get Audi engine upgrade, disks, pads and Nitrons all for the value of my current car plus about 2 – 3k. It’s the best option for me when you consider how little I would get (upgrade wise) by spending 2-3k on the sport 160.

Cheers,

Rob

yeah - cheaper option is always to buy one that someone else has already modded...like this:
