Hi all,

on cold start up, i've got a belt squealing. not sure which one yet but wondered if there is a particular one which is prone to slipping?

it squeals at idle but blip it above 2000rpm and it stops.

I'll get it to garage later on but wanted to have an informed guess first.

I think it's either water pump or fan belt?

easy to tighten? (most importantly) cheap?

thanks

Yup - always is the alt belt making that noise.

FWIW - you don't have a fan belt, and your water pump is driven by your cambelt - if that's slipping, there'll be more than a squeal!!

I sometimes get a belt like squeeling when very wet and I accelerate, could this be the same thing?

about 2 seconds after posting I realised I didn't have a fan belt! d'oh!

btw, top work from my local garage (non-lotus) tightening belt didn't work (it was stretched)

replacement belt: £11.

total cost: £13!!!!!
£2 labour!! top guys!
