For those who cant remember as far back a February, I have trouble. I had a nice person drive into the front of my Elise, whilst it was parked in my Comapnies car park, and then promptly drive off. No witnesses, so its down to me.
As I had an issue with Paint chips on the nose of the car, I waited until Lotus agreed to respray the front of the car before I thought about getting the damage repaired. It aint alot just a crack behind the number plate and another directly above it. The top one isnt visible as it is only on the horizontal part of the fibreglass in the Radiator air feed.
Went to Westover this morning and surprise, surprise, it cant be fixed, it has to be replaced. So thats £1000 minimum, for the front Clam, plus approx another £1500 for other parts/paint/labour.

So a nice £2500 just to get a new clam fitted. So the Q is, are they having a laugh, or is this a realistic quote. So far this is only their best guess, but even so still seems very steep.

Before anyone suggests it, I am also going to try and get to see Miles at Fibreglass Services, to see if the experts, can fix it instead.

The expensive ownership of owning this car now starts to rear its ugly head.....Ouch !!

See what Miles says, but the above number for a replacement clam plus paint and fitting sounds about right.

Hopefully he'll be able to sort you out tho mate.

Beachbum,

The Guys at Westover are not repair guys, they will replace broken parts in order to effect a repair.

I know everyone will suggest Miles and I dont know of anyone better but thake it to a place that knows how to repair glass fibre

Did you see my car down there? How is she?

Didnt see your car, as only went to the Bodyshop. Best bit is that they think it will take a week and a half to affect the repair. What they doing creating the fibreglass mould from scratch !!!!!!

sounds about right - I hit a rabbit a couple of years ago, it cracked my splitter, which then ripped off half the clam with it - £3K bill for new clam (with armourfend) to my insurance co

Sounds about right mate, i asked the same question at Westovers bodyshop regarding my new rear clam (could it be preped and ready to swap over), but the time is needed to colour match and blend in with the other bodypanels. Cant tell you much more than that though.

I had the 'Gell coat' of the paint crack, I was never quoted a front clam. Saying that though I am no expert.

Go to a bodyshop who knows GRP. You could call Karl of Specialised Paintwork Reading (Elise Guru)

my car is currently in at peels motorkraft in Bristol. Everyone who looked at my damaged rear clam took the obligatory sharp intake of breath through pursed lips and said i needed a new clam...£2500 or threabouts. Peels took one look, said they could fix it for...£700!! I have been there before and they are great. you would never know it had been damaged.
Cheers

OK, so the original guesstimate of £2500, turned out to be £1700. so not as bad as originally thought.

Have since been to a company in Poole that works on Fibreglass cars e.g. Caterhams. Have been recommended them by a work collegue.
It turns out that it is very fixable, so that should save a few quid and hopefully prevent an insurance claim.
The other upside will be that all I'll need this company to do, will be to actually fix the Fibreglass cracks, as Lotus has agreed to respray the Nose of the car, as a result of the excessive stone chipping that has occured.

Once all of this is done, got another thing for Lotus to look at. However, I'll save mentioning what that is untill all of this is sorted.
